Halwyck, also known as the James Hoge Tyler House, is a historic home located in Radford, Virginia. It was built in 1892, and is a large two-story, three-bay, Queen Anne brick dwelling on a wooded bluff-top lot overlooking bottomland along the New River. It has a central-passage, T-plan dwelling and a hipped roof. James Hoge Tyler
James Hoge Tyler (August 11, 1846 – January 3, 1925) was a Confederate soldier, writer and political figure. He served in the Virginia Senate and became the 16th Lieutenant Governor of Virginia (1890 to 1894) and the 43rd Governor of Virginia (1898 to 1902). He compiled ''The Family of Hoge'', published posthumously in 1927. Early and family life James Tyler was born at Blenheim plantation in Caroline County, Virginia, on August 11, 1846, to George Tyler (1817–1889) and his second wife Eliza Hoge (1815-1846). His parents were both descended from the First Families of Virginia. Virginia State Route 177
State Route 177 (SR 177) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from Interstate 81 (I-81) near Radford north to U.S. Route 11 (US 11) in Radford. SR 177 directly connects I-81 with the eastern part of the independent city of Radford, including Radford University. Route description SR 177 begins at a diamond interchange with I-81 southeast of Radford. The road continues south as SR 600 (Tyler Road) past Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. SR 177 heads northwest as Tyler Road, a four-lane divided highway. The state highway enters the city of Radford at its intersection with Rock Road. SR 177 continues as Tyler Avenue through the eastern part of the city. The state highway becomes a two-lane divided highway at the southern edge of the campus of Radford University. Radford (formerly Lovely Mount, Central City, English Ferry and Ingle's Ferry) is an independent city in the U.S. state of Virginia.
