Andy Halliday
Andrew William Halliday (born 11 October 1991) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder or left-back for Scottish Premiership club Heart of Midlothian. He has previously played for Livingston, Middlesbrough, Walsall, Blackpool, Bradford City, Gabala and Rangers. In January 2015, he scored Bradford City's third goal against Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA Cup. His club went on to win 4–2, a result regarded as one of the greatest FA Cup shock results in the history of the competition. Dave Halliday
David Halliday (11 December 1901 – 5 January 1970) was a Scottish association football player and manager. He achieved numerous distinctions and high rankings as a prolific goal-scoring forward with six senior clubs; St Mirren, Dundee, Sunderland, Arsenal, Manchester City and Clapton Orient. He bookended his senior career playing at then non-league Queen of the South and Yeovil and Petters United. Halliday's three goals in the FA Cup proper for Yeovil give him a career total of 368 senior goals. From being player-manager at Yeovil, he went on to win trophies managing Aberdeen and Leicester City. He is the most recent of only two players to be outright top scorer in both Scottish and English football's top divisions with 38 Dundee goals in 1923–24 and 43 Sunderland goals in 1928–29. Henry Halliday (paediatrician)
Henry Lewis Halliday (29 November 1945 – 12 November 2022) was a British-Irish peaditrician and neonatologist. In 2021, Halliday was awarded the James Spence Medal for research into neonatology, for coordinating two of the largest neonatal multicentre trials for prevention and treatment of a number of neonatal respiratory illnesses and for a breakthrough in the development of a new lung surfactant that brought relief to very small babies suffering from infant respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Life Halliday was one of four siblings, the eldest of four brothers. His father Louis Halliday was an accountant, while his mother Gladys was a shopkeeper. Halliday attended school at the Belfast Royal Academy before deciding to study medicine. He matriculated in 1965 at Queen's University Belfast medical school and graduated in 1970. Eugene Halliday
Eugene Halliday (10 December 1911 – 22 July 1987) was a British artist, writer, and teacher. For a large part of his life he lived and taught in Manchester and Altrincham, England, lecturing (in Manchester and Liverpool), running groups and giving personal tuition to a large number of interested people. He was an artist, a writer of books, plays and poetry as well as possessing understandings of philosophy, religion and the science of his day. Much of his work centred on his interpretation of the esoteric ideas behind religion. He practised and taught an approach to psychotherapy. He was a friend of the artist Käthe Schuftan, giving the tribute at her funeral in 1958. James Halliday (born 1938) is an Australian wine writer and critic, winemaker, and senior wine competition judge. Since 1979 he has written and co-authored more than 40 books on wine, including contributions to the ''Larousse Encyclopedia of Wine'' and ''The Oxford Companion to Wine''. Since 1986 he has published an annual overview of Australian wine which (since 2000) has been entitled ''James Halliday Annual Wine Companion''. Jancis Robinson has described Halliday as the protégé of Len Evans, and his successor "as Australia’s leading wine writer". Career James Halliday studied law at the University of Sydney. Sir Andrew Halliday, KH (also spelt Hallidie; 17 March 1782 in Copewood, parish of Dryfesdale, Dumfries – 7 September 1839 in Dumfries) was a Scottish physician, reformer, and writer.. When he was nine years old, Halliday had to earn his own living by tending cattle because of his father's financial problems. He later advanced himself by qualifying as a schoolteacher. Denis J. Halliday (born c.1941) was the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq from 1 September 1997 until 1998. Frederick James Halliday
Sir Frederick James Halliday (25 December 1806 – 22 October 1901) was a British civil servant and the first Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal. Early life and career Frederick James Halliday was born on 25 December 1806 at Ewell, Surrey. According to the ''Oxford Dictionary of National Biography'', he was educated at Rugby School. However, a 1901 publication says that, although he went to Rugby in 1814, he entered St Paul's School, London in 1815, spent seven years there and thus "he may fairly be claimed as a Scholar of St. Paul's." This is also the opinion of a historian of St. Paul's, Michael McDonnell, who notes that Halliday was sent to Rugby to be under the influence of its head master, John Sleath, and moved to St. Paul's as a consequence of Sleath being appointed as High Master there. Fred Halliday (footballer)
John Frederick Halliday (19 April 1880 – 20 May 1953) was an English professional footballer and manager who played as a full back in the Football League for Bolton Wanderers and Bradford City. He went on to manage Bradford Park Avenue and Brentford. He was posthumously inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in 2015. Playing career Halliday began his career as an amateur at local club Chester, playing in The Combination. He transferred to First Division club Liverpool in April 1898, but failed to make a first team appearance. Prior to his release from Liverpool on a free transfer, Halliday played for Lancashire League club Crewe Alexandra. He joined cross-city rivals Everton in 1900, but failed to make an appearance for the Toffees before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 1901. Edward Halliday
Edward Irvine Halliday CBE (1902–1984) was a British painter, known for his portraits and his murals in the 1920s. He also worked in television and radio as a host. About Edward Irvine Halliday was born on 7 October 1902 in Garston, Liverpool, to James Halliday and Violet Irvine. He first attended Liverpool College of Art. Halliday continued his studies and attended life drawing classes at Académie Colarossi (1922–1923), the Royal College of Art (1923–1925), and the British School at Rome (1925–1928). He was awarded the Prix de Rome for Decorative Painting in 1925. He established himself as a portrait artist with his work, ''Lord Darling'' (1928). During World War II, Halliday served in the Royal Air Force in Bomber Command.
