Cape Hallett is a snow-free area (Antarctic oasis) on the northern tip of the Hallett Peninsula on the Ross Sea coast of Victoria Land, East Antarctica. Cape Adare lies to the north. History In 1956, during Operation Deep Freeze II, was damaged by an ice floe at Cape Hallett. Hallett Station The cape was the location of a joint scientific base, Hallett Station, between the United States and New Zealand during the International Geophysical Year of 1957, and was manned permanently until 1964, when there was a major fire. It was then used as a summer only base until 1973. The site is currently being remediated by removing hazardous materials: fuel, and oil stored in several large tanks. This is an ongoing project which will take several years to complete. Hallett is a small town in Mid North region of South Australia, situated on the Barrier Highway and former Peterborough railway line north of Burra and south-east of Jamestown, Hallett lies close to Goyder's Line, plotted in the nineteenth century by George Goyder, separating the land suitable for cropping from the land suitable for grazing. At the 2011 census, Hallett shared a population of 235 with adjoining localities. The town was named for pioneering pastoralist and politician John Hallett, and laid out on his property "Willogoleechee". The first were offered for sale on 7 July 1870. Hallett Cove was also named for him. Once a railhead for the local farming community, the town today features a General Store with fuel supply and the Wildongoleechie Hotel, which dates from 1868. The Pond and Hallett Nature Sanctuary are two connected features at the southeastern corner of Central Park in Manhattan, New York City. Hallett Peak is a mountain summit in the northern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The peak is located in the Rocky Mountain National Park Wilderness, southwest by west ( bearing 240°) of the Town of Estes Park, Colorado, United States, on the Continental Divide between Grand and Larimer counties.
