Halima Krausen
Halima Krausen is a German Muslim leader, theologian and scholar. Krausen served as an imam for the Islamic Centre of Hamburg following the resignation of Imam Mehdi Razvi in 1996, and she held this position until 2014. She was Germany's first female imam. Biography Krausen was born in 1949 in Aachen North Rhine-Westphalia, to a mixed Protestant and Catholic family. She converted to Islam in her early teens. Krausen studied Islam, comparative religion, and Christian theology in university and studied Islamic law, philosophy, and theology traditionally under Imam Mehdi Razvi. Krausen holds a traditional ijaza. She worked with a team of Muslim scholars on a translation and commentary of the Koran into German from 1984 to 1988. She also partially translated the hadith. Imam (; ar, إمام '; plural: ') is an Islamic leadership position. For Sunni Muslims, Imam is most commonly used as the title of a worship leader of a mosque. In this context, imams may lead Islamic worship services, lead prayers, serve as community leaders, and provide religious guidance. Thus for Sunnis, anyone can study the basic Islamic sciences and become an Imam. For most Shia Muslims, the Imams are absolute infallible leaders of the Islamic community after the Prophet. Khatib
In Islam, a khatib, khateeb or hatib ( ar, خطيب ''khaṭīb'') is a person who delivers the sermon (''khuṭbah'') (literally "narration"), during the Friday prayer and Eid prayers. The ''khateeb'' is usually the prayer leader ('' imam''), but the two roles can be played by different people. The khatib should be knowledgeable of how to lead the prayer and be competent in delivering the speech (''khutba'') however there are no requirements of eligibility to become a khatib beyond being an Adult Muslim. Women As Imams
There is a difference of opinion among Muslims regarding the circumstances in which women may act as imams, i.e. to lead a mixed gendered congregation in ''salat'' (prayer). The orthodox position is that women cannot lead prayers for men, which is justified by the different roles that men and women take in society. A small number of schools of Islamic thought make exceptions for ''tarawih'' (optional Ramadan prayers) or for a congregation consisting only of close relatives.
