Uttarakhand ( , or ; , ), also known as Uttaranchal ( ; the official name until 2007), is a state in the northern part of India. The Government of Uttarakhand also known as the State Government of Uttarakhand, or locally as State Government, is the subnational government of the Indian state of Uttarakhand and its 13 Districts. It consists of an executive branch, led by the Governor of Uttarakhand, a legislative branch led by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and a judiciary branch, led by the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand. Haldwani (Kumaoni language, Kumaoni: ''Haldvānī'') is the largest city of Kumaon division, Kumaon. In India, a Mayor heads a municipal corporation which governs respective Indian towns and cities. The Mayor of a city is the first citizen of that city. Municipal corporation mechanisms in India was introduced during British Rule with formation of municipal corporation in Madras (Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. However the process of introduction for an elected President in the municipalities was made in Lord Mayo's Resolution of 1870. 2018 Uttarakhand Local Body Elections
The 2018 Uttarakhand Municipal general elections were held in the Indian state of Uttarakhand on 18 November 2018. The Uttarakhand State Election Commission announced the poll dates on 15 October 2018. The results were declared on 20 November 2018. The elections for the Roorkee Municipal Corporation, municipal councils of Bajpur and Srinagar and the nagar panchayats of Bhatrojkhan and Selakui were postponed.
