Haldia Port
Haldia port or Haldia Dock Complex has been built at the meeting place of the Haldi River and Hooghly river. Kolkata Port Trust has been created in this port as the port's partner. So it is not a port. It is an official dock complex. It has a vast hinterland comprising the entire north east of India including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, North East Hill States and two landlocked neighbouring countries namely, Nepal and Bhutan and also the Autonomous Region of Tibet (China). With the turn of the century the volume of throughput has again started increasing steadily. Geography Location Haldia port is 8 meters above sea level and is located at 21.20 north and 88.00 east. Kolkata Port Trust
Port of Kolkata or Kolkata Port, officially known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust (formerly Kolkata Port Trust), is the only riverine major port of India, located in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, around from the sea. It is the oldest operating port in India and was constructed by the British East India Company. Kolkata is a freshwater port with no variation in salinity. The port has two distinct dock systems — Kolkata Dock at Kolkata and a deep water dock at Haldia Dock Complex, Haldia. In the 19th century, the Kolkata Port was the premier port in British India. After slavery was abolished in 1833, there was a high demand for labourers on sugar cane plantations in the British Empire. Nandigram
Nandigram is a census town in the Nandigram I Community Development Block of the Haldia subdivision in the Purba Medinipur district of the Indian state of West Bengal. In 2007, the West Bengal government allowed the Salim Group to set up a chemical hub at Nandigram under the special economic zone policy. This led to resistance by the villagers resulting in clashes with the police that left 14 villagers dead, and resulted in accusations of police brutality. Kukrahati is a village in Sutahata CD block in Purba Medinipur district of the Indian state of West Bengal. Geonkhali is a village and scenic tourist spot in the Mahishadal Block of East Midnapore district of West Bengal. Sona Chura
Sona Chura is a village and a Gram panchayat in Nandigram I CD Block in Purba Medinipur district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History Nandigram movement Sona Chura was one of the six gram panchayats mentioned in the notification issued for land acquisition of a proposed chemical hub in 2006. Protests led by Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee snowballed into a major movement and repression followed. Mahishadal
Mahishadal is a town in Mahishadal CD block in Haldia subdivision of Purba Medinipur district in the state of West Bengal, India. Geography Mahishadal Rajbari Like other Raj families of East Midnapore, Mahisadal Raj also belonged to a Mahishya family(arguably the word Mahishadal itself originated from the word "Mahishya"). It was founded by Bhuiya Ray Mahapatra, whose sixth descendant, Kalyan Ray, could not realize the revenue and had to furnish Janardan Upadhaya, a Brahmin of substance, as his security. The zamindari was held over a century by this Brahmin family till the Permanent Settlement. During the days of Rani Janaki Devi, it reached its zenith in the 18th century.
