The Haiti Davis Cup team represents Haiti in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Fédération Haïtienne de Tennis. They have not competed since 2013. Haiti currently compete in the Americas Zone of Group III. They reached the Group II semifinals twice in 1990 and 1998. History Haiti competed in its first Davis Cup in 1988. 1988 Davis Cup
The 1988 Davis Cup (also known as the 1988 Davis Cup by NEC for sponsorship purposes) was the 77th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. This year's tournament marked the introduction of sub-divisions within each continental zone. Each zone would now feature two groups, with promotion and relegation between the two. This year also saw the Eastern Zone renamed as the Asia/Oceania Zone. 75 teams would enter the competition, 16 in the World Group, 13 in the Americas Zone, 16 in the Asia/Oceania Zone, and 30 in the Europe/Africa Zone. Ronald Agénor
Ronald Jean-Martin Agénor (born November 13, 1964) is a former professional tennis player who represented Haiti during his playing career. He is the only Haitian to have ever earned a Top 25 world ranking in singles, reaching a highest singles ranking of world No. 22 in May 1989. During his career he won three ATP tour singles titles. Early life and junior tennis Agénor was born on November 13, 1964 in Rabat, Morocco, the son of Frédéric Agénor, a former Haitian Diplomat at the United Nations and Minister of Agriculture of Haiti. He is the youngest of a family of six children and learned how to play tennis in Lubumbashi, Zaire (current Congo) in 1974 and discovered competitive tennis in Bordeaux, France in 1978 under the wing of his brother, Lionel. Joel Allen (tennis)
Joel Asaph Allen (July 19, 1838 – August 29, 1921) was an American zoologist, mammalogist, and ornithologist. He became the first president of the American Ornithologists' Union, the first curator of birds and mammals at the American Museum of Natural History, and the first head of that museum's Department of Ornithology. He is remembered for Allen's rule, which states that the bodies of endotherms (warm-blooded animals) vary in shape with climate, having increased surface area in hot climates to lose heat, and minimized surface area in cold climates, to conserve heat. Bertrand Madsen
Bertrand Madsen (born 18 May 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Haiti. Career Madsen was a quarter-finalist in the boys' singles event at the 1990 French Open. After leaving the junior circuit, Madsen started out competing in the ATP Challenger Series, but in 1991 managed to qualify for the US Open. He was beaten in the first round by Todd Woodbridge. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format.
