Haina (Kloster) is a municipality in Waldeck-Frankenberg in northwest Hesse, Germany. Geography Location Haina lies in Waldeck-Frankenberg south of Frankenberg and east of Burgwald at the southwest slope of the Kellerwald range. It lies on the river Wohra not far west of the Hohes Lohr (the Kellerwald range's second highest peak at 657 m). Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein
Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, known as the ''Goethe Tischbein'' (15 February 1751 in Haina – 26 February 1829 in Eutin), was a German painter from the Tischbein family of artists. Biography Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein was born on 15 February 1751 in Haina. His father was Johann Conrad, a carpenter. Tischbein began his artistic studies with his uncle, Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder (The "Kassel Tischbein"), in 1765, when Johann Heinrich Wilhelm was only 14 years old. Soon after, he began his travels, first working at the studio of his uncle Johann Jacob Tischbein in Hamburg before moving to Bremen in 1771, and then travelling through Holland in 1772 and 1773. Tischbein returned to Kassel in 1773. Between 1773 and 1775 he completed many portrait commissions with his brother Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Younger. Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder, known as the Kasseler Tischbein, (3 October 1722, Haina – 22 August 1789, Kassel) was one of the most respected European painters in the 18th century and an important member of the Tischbein family of German painters, which spanned three generations. His work consisted primarily of portraits of the nobility, mythological scenes, and historical paintings. For his mythology paintings his models were mostly members of the upper nobility. Life His father was Johann Tischbein (1682-1764), a baker; five of whose eight children became painters. From 1736 to 1741, he studied wallpaper painting and, later, oil painting with Johann Georg von Freese (1701–1775), after which he worked in the service of small princely courts. Frankenberg, Hesse
Frankenberg an der Eder is a town in Waldeck-Frankenberg district, Hesse, Germany. The mountain at a Ford (crossing), ford over the Eder (Fulda), Eder north of the Burgwald range was for a long time a fortified place, playing an especially important role under the Franks in the Saxon Wars. The town was built in 1233-1234 by the Thuringian Landgrave at the junction of two trade routes. The renovated Old and New Town have many Timber framing, half-timbered houses. In 2018 the town adopted the additional name "Philipp Soldan Stadt". Bad Wildungen is a state-run spa and a small town in Waldeck-Frankenberg district in Hesse, Germany. It is located on the German Timber-Frame Road. Geography Location Bad Wildungen lies in the eastern foothills of the Kellerwald range in the so-called ''Waldeck'' holiday region, 11 km west of Fritzlar, and 35 km southwest of Kassel. The town, which spreads out east of the Homberg, is crossed by the river Wilde, which empties into the Eder at the constituent community of Wega. The constituent communities of Wega and Mandern lie on the Eder, on which also lies the Edersee, a reservoir lying only about 10 km northwest (in a straight line) of the main town of Bad Wildungen. Anton Wilhelm Tischbein, known as the ''Hanauer Tischbein'' (1 March 1730, Haina - 1 November 1804, Hanau) was a German painter from the Tischbein family of artists. Biography His father was a baker. His four older brothers were all painters, the best-known of them being Johann Heinrich Tischbein. His first teacher was his brother Johann Valentin Tischbein. In 1753, he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, which had an international reputation for its teaching in the Baroque style. In 1758, he entered the service of Count Christian August von Solms-Laubach as his secretary. He moved to Hanau in 1769 to become court painter for William I, Elector of Hesse and, after 1772, worked to establish an art academy there and became a teacher. Johann Heinrich Tischbein, known as The Younger (28 November 1742, Haina - 22 December 1808, Kassel) was a German painter and engraver from the Tischbein family of artists. Biography He was the son of Johann Konrad Tischbein (1712–1778), a carpenter who was the eldest son of the Tischbein family patriarch, Johann Heinrich (1682-1764). His younger brother was Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, known as the ''Goethe Tischbein''. He received his first art lessons from his uncle Johann Heinrich Tischbein, sometimes called ''The Elder'' to distinguish them. After spending some time in the Netherlands, he settled in Kassel, where his uncle had established an art gallery for William VIII, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel. Weser
The Weser () is a river of Lower Saxony in north-west Germany. It begins at Hannoversch Münden through the confluence of the Werra and Fulda. It passes through the Hanseatic city of Bremen. Its mouth is further north against the ports of Bremerhaven and Nordenham. The latter is on the Butjadingen Peninsula. It then merges into the North Sea via two highly saline, estuarine mouths. It connects to the canal network running east-west across the North German Plain.
