Haiduan Township () is a mountain indigenous township in Taitung County, Taiwan. It has an area of 880.0382 km2, with a population of 4,224 as of February 2023. Bunun Cultural Museum
The Bunun Cultural Museum () is a museum about Bunun people in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. History The museum was established in 2002 due to the close connection between the township and the Bunun people. The museum establishment makes Haiduan the first indigenous township in Taiwan to construct a local museum. Architecture The museum building consists of two floors. The first floor is the tourist center of Southern Cross-Island Highway, while the second floor is the Bunun Story House. Outside the museum is a performance area for important Bunun tribal and cultural events. Exhibitions The museum displays waxen statues of Bunun tribesmen, embossment works and wood carvings. Numerous old photos are hung along the corridor. Transportation The museum is accessible within walking distance south of Haiduan Station of Taiwan Railways. Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area
Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area () is a forest in Lidao Village, Haiduan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. Geography The forest is located at an altitude of 2,320―2,700 meters above sea level and spans over an area of 362 hectares. It has an annual average temperature of 11.4°C. The main vegetations of the forest are pine trees, masters pine trees and red cypress trees. Architecture The forest consists of four trails, which are Xiangyang Trail, Songjing Trail, Xiangsong Trail and Songtao Trail. Two of the trails are connected to Jiaminghu National Trail. Lisong Hot Spring
The Lisong Hot Spring () is a hot spring in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. Geology The hot spring is located 1,075 meters above sea level. The hot spring came out from the holes of stone slopes forming waterfalls located in a deep river valley. Transportation The hot spring is accessible on foot from the Southern Cross-Island Highway. Chiaming Lake
The Chiaming Lake (; Bunun：''Cidanuman Buan'' (mirror of the moon)) is a lake in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. It is the second highest lake area in Taiwan. Name In Bunun language, Chiaming Lake is called "cidanuman buan", meaning "Mirror of the moon"; in Taiwan, it is traditionally referred as "Angel's teardrop" or, due to its deep blue color, "God's lost sapphire". History The lake was formed by glacial movement during the ice age. The forest authority closed the mountain area for maintenance and restoration works on 10 December 2014 until 31 March 2015. On 5 January 2018, the lake was closed for visitors and will be opened again on 1 April 2018 to allow the natural vegetation restoration of the area around the lake. Township (Taiwan)
Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities. Under townships, there is still the village as the fourth or basic level of administration. Bunun People
The Bunun (), also historically known as the Vonum, are a Taiwanese indigenous people. They speak the Bunun language. Unlike other aboriginal peoples in Taiwan, the Bunun are widely dispersed across the island's central mountain ranges. In the year 2000, the Bunun numbered 41,038. This was approximately 8% of Taiwan's total indigenous population, making them the fourth-largest indigenous group. They have five distinct communities: the Takbunuaz, the Takituduh, the Takibaka, the Takivatan, and the Isbukun.
