Hafeni Ludwigh Ndemula
Hafeni Ludwig Ndemula (born 10 October 1962 in Walvis Bay) is a Namibian politician and trade unionist. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization, Ndemula rose to prominence in the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) prior to independence. As the elected councillor of the Walvis Bay Urban constituency he was appointed to the National Council in 2001 prior to election and re-elected in 2004. Walvis Bay
Walvis Bay ( en, lit. Whale Bay; af, Walvisbaai; ger, Walfischbucht or Walfischbai) is a city in Namibia and the name of the bay on which it lies. It is the second largest city in Namibia and the largest coastal city in the country. The city covers a total area of of land. The bay is a safe haven for sea vessels because of its natural deepwater harbour, protected by the Pelican Point sand spit, being the only natural harbour of any size along the country's coast. Being rich in plankton and marine life, these waters also drew large numbers of southern right whales, attracting whalers and fishing vessels. A succession of colonists developed the location and resources of this strategic harbour settlement. The harbour's value in relation to the sea route around the Cape of Good Hope had caught the attention of world powers since it was discovered by the outside world in 1485. South West Africa People's Organization
The South West Africa People's Organisation (, SWAPO; af, Suidwes-Afrikaanse Volks Organisasie, SWAVO; german: Südwestafrikanische Volksorganisation, SWAVO), officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia, is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. Founded in 1960, it has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group. National Union Of Namibian Workers
The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) is one of three national trade union centers in Namibia. It was established in 1970 and is affiliated with SWAPO, Namibia's ruling political party. History NUNW was originally established as a general workers union in April 1970 through a resolution of the 1969/70 South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) party congress in Tanzania. From that time, NUNW became the trade union wing of SWAPO. In 1978, the NUNW affiliated to the World Federation of Trade Unions (WTFU). The headquarters in exile of the NUNW were set up in Luanda, Angola in 1979. From 1986, various industrial unions were established inside Namibia under the umbrella of the NUNW and in 1989, a consolidation congress took place that merged the exiled and internal wings of the NUNW into a unified federation. Walvis Bay Urban is a constituency in the Erongo Region of Namibia, comprising most of the city of Walvis Bay. It had a population of 35,828 in 2011, up from 27,941 in 2001. the constituency had 25,311 registered voters. Politics In the 2010 regional elections, SWAPO's Hafeni Ndemula won the constituency with 4,254 votes. His only challenger was Sippora Ndeshihala Kamati of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), who received 789 votes. Ndemula also won the 2015 regional elections with 3,719 votes. Clementia Hababeb of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) came second with 461 votes, and Cornelius John Jansen (RDP) obtained 192. The National Council is the upper chamber of Namibia's bicameral Parliament. It reviews bills passed by the lower chamber and makes recommendations for legislation of regional concern to the lower chamber. The 42 National Council members are indirectly elected by regional councils for a term of five years. Each of the 14 regional councils chooses three of its members to serve on the National Council.
