Hadley Hills
The Hadley Hills are a rugged glacial moraine located in The Thumb of Michigan, that extend from northern Oakland County and into southern Lapeer County. The Hadley Hills surround the village of Hadley; The highest points and most prominent outcroppings are: Pinnacle Point at , Kerr (Cemetery) Hill at , both located in Hadley Township; Mt. Christie at , in Metamora Township; and a point near Mayville reaching up to above sea level. Located predominately in Hadley Township in Lapeer County, the Hadley Hills are actually an extension of a much larger collection of hills which are attributed to other geologically related moraines that run in a southwesterly direction from northern Lapeer County and stretch as far south as northern Indiana and Ohio. Moraine
A moraine is any accumulation of unconsolidated debris (regolith and rock), sometimes referred to as glacial till, that occurs in both currently and formerly glaciated regions, and that has been previously carried along by a glacier or ice sheet. It may consist of partly rounded particles ranging in size from boulders (in which case it is often referred to as boulder clay) down to gravel and sand, in a groundmass of finely-divided clayey material sometimes called glacial flour. Lateral moraines are those formed at the side of the ice flow, and terminal moraines were formed at the foot, marking the maximum advance of the glacier. Veiki Moraine
A Veiki moraine (Swedish: VeikimorÀn) is a type of moraine found in northern Sweden, Troms og Finnmark in Norway, and parts of Canada. This moraine is characterized by forming a hummocky landscape of irregular moraine plateaus with elevated rims that are intercalated with ponds. Gunnar Hoppe was the first to define the Veiki moraine concept in 1952, naming it after a locality consisting of two farms located about 10 kilometers north of GÀllivare and Malmberget. To the east in Finnish Lapland, a moraine type similar to Veiki moraine but smaller is known as Pulju moraine since 1967. Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area
Metamora-Hadley State Recreation Area is a state-managed protected area in the U.S. state of Michigan, located in Hadley Township in Lapeer County, northwest of Detroit. It is located eight miles south of the city of Lapeer. The closest urban community is the village of Metamora, Michigan, which lies to its east and is used in its postal address. The park is in area and has 214 camping sites distributed across a "north" and "south" campground, and one cabin. The north campground has larger lots which can accommodate larger trailers than the south campground. Irish Hills
Irish Hills is an area of land located roughly in southeastern Jackson County and northwest Lenawee County in Southeast Michigan. It was named after the numerous Irish immigrants who settled there from 1830 until 1850. Today it is known throughout the state for its scenery, especially in the summer. Its hills and larger kettle lakes surround the Hayes State Park. It is also known for its chain of smaller kettle lakes bordered by US Highway 12 (US 12, Michigan Avenue). These link to Cambridge Junction Historic State Park, which is adjoined by the Michigan International Speedway. Irish Hills has a number of resorts. The Thumb
The Thumb is a region and a peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan, so named because the Lower Peninsula is shaped like a mitten. The Thumb area is generally considered to be in the Central Michigan region, east of the Tri-Cities and north of Metro Detroit. The region is also branded as the Blue Water Area.
