HNLMS O 1
''O 1'' was a Holland 7P patrol submarine of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The ship was built by the De Schelde shipyard in Flushing and was the first submarine in the Dutch navy. It had a diving depth of 25 metres. Service history The Royal Netherlands Navy purchased the submarine O 1 mainly to gain experience in the use of the underwater weapons. The submarine was laid down in Flushing at the shipyard of De Schelde under the name of ''Luctor et Emergo'' on 1 June 1904, as it was not yet certain the Dutch navy would purchase the ship. The design came from the American company Holland Torpedo Boat Co. The engineer Marly Hai was sent to the shipyard to assist in the construction of the submarine. Damen Naval is a Dutch shipyard, and a continuation of the Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde, responsible for a number of ships used by the Royal Netherlands Navy. It is owned by the Damen Group. Damen Naval is situated in Vlissingen. History The company was founded October 8, 1875, as the ''NV Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde'' (KMS) after shipbuilder Arie Smit had taken over the ''Marine Etablissement'' the wharf owned by the Dutch navy. Duke Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (german: Heinrich Wladimir Albrecht Ernst; nl, Hendrik Vladimir Albrecht Ernst; 19 April 1876 – 3 July 1934) was Prince consort of the Netherlands from 7 February 1901 until his death in 1934 as the husband of Queen Wilhelmina. He was the longest-serving Dutch consort. Biography Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin was born on 19 April 1876 in Schwerin. He was the youngest son of Frederick Francis II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, and his third wife, Princess Marie of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Den Helder () is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Den Helder occupies the northernmost point of the North Holland peninsula. It is home to the country's main naval base. From here the Royal TESO ferryboat service operates the transportation link between Den Helder and the nearby Dutch Wadden island of Texel to the north.
