HK45
The Heckler & Koch HK45 (''Heckler & Koch, .45 ACP'') is a semi-automatic pistol designed by the German arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch. Overview The HK45 was designed to meet requirements set forth in the U.S. Military Joint Combat Pistol program which had the purpose of arming the U.S. Military with a .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol instead of the 9mm M9 pistol. Heckler & Koch developed the HK45 with the help of retired SFOD-D operator Larry Vickers and firearms instructor Ken Hackathorn. The Joint Combat Pistol program was suspended in 2006 and eventually cancelled due to the price of re-arming the entire U.S. armed forces. The M9 pistol remained the standard issue handgun for the U.S. Military until the adoption of the Sig P320 by the U.S. Army in January 2017. Larry Vickers
Larry Allen Vickers is a retired Delta Force soldier, firearms instructor, and author. He is the founder of Vickers Tactical, and co-founder of the International Pistol Defense Association and Firearms Training Association. Early life Vickers was born in Adams Mills, Ohio in June 1963. His father served in the North African and Italian campaign of World War II. When he was in middle school, Vickers decided that he wanted to join the United States Army Special Forces, and gained an interest in firearms during this period. Vickers entered into the Delayed Entry Program and graduated from Tri-Valley High School in 1981, and graduated from the military in 1982. He joined Delta Force in 1987. Career Vickers participated in Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Acid Gambit, for which he received the Bronze Star Medal. Joint Combat Pistol
The Joint Combat Pistol was the name for a former US program for a new military sidearm to replace the M9 Pistol, extant from late 2005 to early 2006. The program was started in 2005 and run by USSOCOM. It is the result of a merger of two earlier programs, the army's ''Future Handgun System'' (FHS) and the ''Special Operations Forces Combat Pistol''. Current requirements for the JCP include being chambered for caliber .45 ACP, having an integrated Picatinny rail, including day/night sights, and being capable of accepting a suppressor. On March 10, 2006 a modification to the earlier request was made, changing the name from ''Joint Combat Pistol'' to ''Combat Pistol''. Semi-automatic Pistol
A semi-automatic pistol is a type of repeating single-chamber handgun ( pistol) that automatically cycles its action to insert the subsequent cartridge into the chamber (self-loading), but requires manual actuation of the trigger to actually discharge the following shot. As a result, only one round of ammunition is fired each time the trigger is pulled, as the pistol's fire control group disconnects the trigger mechanism from the firing pin/ striker until the trigger has been released and reset. The Heckler & Koch MK 23, MK 23 MOD 0, Mark 23, or USSOCOM MARK 23 is a semi-automatic large-frame pistol chambered in .45 ACP, designed specifically to be an offensive pistol. The USSOCOM version of the MK23 came paired with a laser aiming module (LAM) and suppressor.
