HFX Wanderers FC
HFX Wanderers Football Club, commonly known as HFX Wanderers, and spoken as Halifax Wanderers, is a Canadian professional Association football, soccer club in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The club competes in the Canadian Premier League at the top of the Canadian soccer league system, and play their home matches at Wanderers Grounds. History In December 2016, Sports & Entertainment Atlantic owner Derek Martin met with Canadian Premier League officials to discuss launching a franchise in Halifax. Martin pitched the idea of a pop-up stadium to Halifax Regional Council, Halifax City Councillors in March 2017, and approval was given three months later. On May 5, 2018, Halifax was one of four groups accepted by the Canadian Soccer Association for professional club membership. Canadian Premier League
The Canadian Premier League (CPL or CanPL; french: Première ligue canadienne, links=no) is a professional men's Association football, soccer league in Canada. At the top of the Canadian soccer league system, it is the country's primary national soccer league competition. The league consists of eight teams, from five of provinces and territories of Canada, Canada's ten provinces. Each team plays 28 games in the regular season which is followed by playoffs culminating in the Canadian Premier League Finals, CPL Finals. The CPL champion and regular season winner earn berths in the CONCACAF Champions League, competing against teams from across North America, Central America and Caribbean for a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup. Dartmouth ( ) is an urban community and former city located in the Halifax Regional Municipality of Nova Scotia, Canada. Dartmouth is located on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour. Dartmouth has been nicknamed the City of Lakes, after the large number of lakes located within its boundaries. Andre Rampersad
Andre Jesse Rampersad (born 2 February 1995) is a Trinidadian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Canadian club HFX Wanderers. Club career Santa Rosa Rampersad spent eight years with TT Super League side FC Santa Rosa. In 2012, he was named MVP of the Super League U17 division. In 2013–14, he scored one goal, and scored another two the following season. In 2018, he made eighteen appearances and scored three goals for Santa Rosa, on route to his first Super League title. Stephen Hart (soccer)
Stephen Simon Hart (born 15 March 1960) is a Trinidadian football manager and former player. As a player, Hart began his career with the San Fernando Hurricanes before joining Professional Football League club Texaco in 1979. Leaving Trinidad and Tobago for Canada to study at Saint Mary's University, he represented the university team as well as the Halifax Privateers. Hart joined the San Fernando Strikers briefly before six years with King of Donair. He ended his playing career with Americas. As a coach, Hart first took over at King of Donair as a player-manager in 1988. He returned to Saint Mary's University as coach of the Huskies women's team, before becoming technical director of Soccer Nova Scotia. Jan-Michael Williams
Jan-Michael Grantley Williams (born 26 October 1984) is a Trinidadian football coach and semi-retired professional footballer who serves as a player–goalkeeper coach for Canadian club HFX Wanderers. Over the course of his playing career, Williams made 80 appearances for the Trinidad and Tobago national football team and played professionally in Trinidad, Belgium, Hungary, Honduras, Guatemala and Canada. FC Edmonton
FC Edmonton was a Canadian professional soccer club based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club was founded in 2010 and competed in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 2011 to 2017. Barrett's Privateers
"Barrett's Privateers" is a modern folk song in the style of a sea shanty, written and performed by Canadian musician Stan Rogers, having been inspired after a song session with the Friends of Fiddler's Green at the Northern Lights Festival Boréal in Sudbury, Ontario. Although Barrett, the ''Antelope'' and other specific instances mentioned in the song are fictional, "Barrett's Privateers" is full of many authentic details of privateering in the late 18th century. The song was released on the album '' Fogarty's Cove'' in 1976 and has since gained popularity as a drinking song, with cover versions by many bands. Privateering
A privateer is a private person or ship that engages in maritime warfare under a commission of war. Since robbery under arms was a common aspect of seaborne trade, until the early 19th century all merchant ships carried arms. A sovereign or delegated authority issued commissions, also referred to as a letter of marque, during wartime. The commission empowered the holder to carry on all forms of hostility permissible at sea by the usages of war. This included attacking foreign vessels and taking them as prizes, and taking prize crews as prisoners for exchange. Captured ships were subject to condemnation and sale under prize law, with the proceeds divided by percentage between the privateer's sponsors, shipowners, captains and crew. Wanderers Amateur Athletic Club
The Halifax Wanderers, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada were the amateur athletic teams of the ''Wanderers Amateur Athletic Club'', organized in 1882, and in existence until 1982. History The Club was founded by members of the Wanderer's Cricket Team in 1882. It was initially active in cricket, track and field and rugby football. The Wanderers had their own playing field, known as Wanderers Grounds, which still exists today. A field house was built in 1896 on the city-owned grounds, which were leased for $100 per year.
