HC Bratislava
The Bratislava Capitals were a professional Slovak ice hockey club based in Bratislava, Slovakia. They mostly played in the ICE Hockey League in Austria. The club was established in 2015 and ceased operations in 2022. History HC Bratislava was established in 2015 in response to the lack of a Bratislava senior team in Slovak competitions. In its first season in the second division, it finished 12th out of 16 teams. In the 2016/17 season, the club found a stable home in Vladimír Dzurilla Arena in Ružinov. The club stabilized, established itself in the second hockey league and finished fourth out of 20 teams. In 2019/20, the club went through a complete rebranding, changing its name to the Bratislava Capitals. Stanislav Gron (born October 28, 1978) is a Slovak professional ice hockey left winger. He is currently playing a free agent having last played for HC Bratislava in the Slovak 1. Liga. He was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the second round, 38th overall, of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He played one game in the National Hockey League with the Devils during the 2000–01 season against the Carolina Hurricanes on February 23, 2001, being held without a point. Sport In Bratislava
Various sports and sports teams have a long tradition in Bratislava, with many sport teams and individuals competing in the best Slovak and international leagues and competitions. Many significant sports events, such as World and European Championships, have been held in Bratislava. The 2011 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships were held in Bratislava, along with Košice. Mykola Olehovych "Nikolay" Zherdev ( uk, Микола Олегович Жердев; born November 5, 1984) is a Ukrainian-Russian professional ice hockey right winger who is currently playing for the HC Merano of the Alps Hockey League. Brett Carson (born November 29, 1985) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently a free agent. He previously played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Calgary Flames. Matthew Scott Climie (born February 11, 1983) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He is currently an unrestricted free agent who most recently played with the CBR Brave of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL). Dušan Pašek (18 January 1985 – 5 November 2021) was a Slovak professional ice hockey player who played HC Slovan Bratislava in the Slovak Extraliga. On the morning of 5 November 2021, Pašek was discovered hanged in Koliba, Bratislava, during his time as a club official for Bratislava Capitals. His suicide at age 36 came only two days after the death of fellow club player Boris Sádecký. Boris Sádecký
Boris Sádecký (20 April 1997 – 3 November 2021) was a Slovak professional ice hockey player who played professionally for Bratislava Capitals of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. On October 30, 2021, Sádecký inexplicably collapsed on the ice in the final seconds of the first period of a game against the Dornbirn Bulldogs, and died in hospital on November 3.
