H. R. Fuller
Henry Robert Fuller (22 January 1825 – 27 August 1905) was a businessman in South Australia, Mayor of Adelaide from 1866 to 1869 and a member of both houses of the South Australian parliament. History Fuller was born in Cambridge Heath, London the eldest son of H. P. Fuller, a surgeon of Hackney Road, London. He was educated at E. Duke's academy, "Belle Vue", at Ball's Pond, near Highbury, then at Mr. Burn's school, Kennington Common. He was employed as the second officer on several P. & O. steamships. He left the company at Port Adelaide in 1845, and worked as a carter, carrying goods between the port and Adelaide city. In 1856 he and partners Henry Hill and George Mills won the contract to manage rail freight between the port and the city. National Defence League
The National Defence League (NDL) was an independent conservative political party, founded in 1891 by MLC Richard Baker in South Australia as an immediate response to the perceived threat from Labor. Though renamed the Australasian National League (ANL) in 1896, it was still often referred to by its former name. It lasted until the 1910 election, after which it merged with the Liberal and Democratic Union and the Farmers and Producers Political Union to become the Liberal Union. William Townsend (mayor)
William Townsend (1821 – 25 October 1882) was a leading auctioneer, Mayor of Adelaide from 1864 to 1866, and a South Australian politician. In 1874 he established an institution for deaf and blind children which was named Townsend House. Early years Townsend was born in the London Borough of Southwark, and worked assisting his brother, a potato salesman, and subsequently as a clerk. He married Emma Slade at St Pancras on 25 December 1852, and soon after set sail for Adelaide. He, his wife and child arrived in South Australia aboard the Dutch ship ''Fop Smit'' on 2 August 1853. Patrick Boyce Coglin
Patrick Boyce Coglin (15 January 1815 – 22 July 1892) was a businessman and politician in the early days of South Australia. Coglin was born at Ballynote, in the county of Sligo Ireland to an old and honorable family. His uncle, Dr. Boyce, of Tullamore, county Roscommon, was a noted horse breeder. In 1831 he, his parents, brothers and sisters sailed for Tasmania in the ''Lindsay'', captain Fenton, arriving in Hobart on 24 June. After completing his education in Hobart he was articled to Mr. Biggins, a prominent architect and builder. In 1836 or 1837 he left in the ''Lady Liverpool'' for South Australia, where he married Mrs. Frances Gerrard, the mother of William Gerrard of Yolo Station at Rapid Bay. William Knox Simms
William Knox Simms (1830 – 25 December 1897) was a brewer, businessman and politician in the early days of South Australia. History Simms migrated to South Australia from England, arriving in December 1845. He formed a partnership with John Hayter and in 1852 purchased the Pirie Street Brewery from its founder James Walsh. In 1853 Simms & Hayter took over the mail business of John and James Chambers, which proved highly profitable. Hayter left in 1855, then was proved insolvent in 1859. From 1856 the firm of W. K. Simms & Co. ran the Halifax Street Brewery, then in 1861 took over the famous West End Brewery, off Hindley Street near West Terrace, and built it up into a highly profitable business; from 1866 to 1879 with partner Edgar Chapman. James Boucaut
Sir James Penn Boucaut (;) (29 October 1831 – 1 February 1916) was a South Australian politician and Australian judge. He was a member of the South Australian House of Assembly on four occasions: from 1861 to 1862 for City of Adelaide, from 1865 to 1870 for West Adelaide (1865–1868) and The Burra (1868–1870), from 1871 to 1878 for West Torrens (1871–1875) and Encounter Bay (1875–1878), and a final stint in Encounter Bay in 1878. At 34 years and 150 days of age, Boucaut was the youngest person to have been appointed Premier of South Australia. He was Premier three times: from 1866 to 1867, from 1875 to 1876, and from 1877 to 1878. Emanuel Solomon (1800 – 3 October 1873) was a businessman and politician in the early days of the Colony of South Australia, representing the seat of West Adelaide in the South Australian Legislative Assembly from 1862 to 1865. He is the brother of Vaiben Solomon and is apart of the larger Solomon family. Kent Town is an inner suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters. Henry Ernest Fuller (13 August 1867 – 18 February 1962), generally known as H. E. Fuller, was an architect, artist and art critic in South Australia. History Fuller was born in Adelaide, a son of Henry Robert Fuller (1825–1905), mayor of Adelaide 1866–1869 and member of both houses of State parliament. He was educated at Hahndorf College and Prince Alfred College. He was articled to architect Isidore George Beaver for four years from 1884, and on graduating worked for the firm of Wright, Reed, & Beaver as a draftsman, then with architect E. H. Bayer. He took a year off to study at Adelaide's School of Design. In 1891 he was appointed chief draftsman for Alfred Wells. In 1896 he went into practice on his own account, collaborating with Hedley Allen Dunn on a design for the new YWCA building (not adopted) in 1899, and the Adelaide Stock Exchange, which was built in 1901.
