H. L. Bateman
Hezekiah Linthicum Bateman (December 6, 1812March 22, 1875), was an American actor and manager. Life Born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1812, the fourth child and second son of Amzi Bateman (c.1777–1816), a fisherman, and his wife, Catherine Bateman (née Schaeffer) (c.1784–1870). Amzi Bateman had served with the 6th Regiment of the Maryland Militia and took part in the defence of Baltimore against the invasion by the British troops during the Anglo-American War of 1812. After his death in 1816 his widow tutored students to support herself and her children.Gayle T. Edward Compton (14 January 1854 – 16 July 1918) was an actor and actor-manager of the Victorian era who enjoyed considerable success in touring the English provinces with plays by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, Sheridan and Oliver Goldsmith, Goldsmith but who met with failure while trying to break into the West End theatre. Virginia Lilian Emmeline Compton-Mackenzie, (; 18 September 1894 – 12 December 1978), known professionally as Fay Compton, was an English actress. She appeared in several films, and made many broadcasts, but was best known for her stage performances.
