Guaraculén was a large hacienda and hamlet, located near Villa Alegre, Chile, Villa Alegre, in the current province of Linares Province, Linares, in the Maule Region of Chile. Guaraculén was the birthplace of the famed Jesuit Priest, Natural history, naturalist and chronicler Juan Ignacio Molina (Abate Molina), who was forced to leave Chile in 1768 when the Jesuits were expelled. Juan Ignacio Molina
Fr. Juan Ignacio Molina (; (June 24, 1740 – September 12, 1829) was a Chilean Jesuit priest, naturalist, historian, translator, geographer, botanist, ornithologist, and linguist. He is usually referred to as Abate Molina (a form of Abbot Molina), and is also sometimes known by the Italian form of his name, Giovanni Ignazio Molina. He was one of the precursors of the theory of the gradual evolution of species, 44 years before Darwin, who repeatedly quoted him in "The Origin of Species". Biography Early years Molina was born at Guaraculén, a big farm located near Villa Alegre ( General Captaincy of Chile), where he lived until he was 5 years old.
