Groundation
Groundation is an American roots reggae band with jazz and dub influences, from Sonoma County in Northern California. It is named for Rastafarian ceremony of Grounation. History Formed in the fall of 1998 by Harrison Stafford, Marcus Urani, and Ryan Newman, Groundation began on the campus of Sonoma State University's Jazz Program. Between 1999 and 2001, Harrison Stafford taught the first course on the History of Reggae Music at the University. In 1999, Stafford teamed up with Kris Dilbeck to found Young Tree Records and release Groundation's debut album ''Young Tree''. "Groundation" comes from the Rasta term "Grounation". Grounation Day is an important Rastafarian holy day celebrated April 21, which commemorates Haile Selassie’s first visit to Jamaica in 1966. Grounation Day is second in importance to Coronation Day, which is celebrated November 2, in honor Haile Selassie’s Coronation in 1930. Jason Robinson (musician)
Jason Robinson (born September 20, 1975) is an American jazz saxophonist and academic. Early life and education Born in Northern California, Robinson was raised in the Sierra Nevada region. He attended the University of Southern California for one year before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in jazz studies and philosophy from Sonoma State University. Robinson later earned a Master of Arts and PhD in music from the University of California, San Diego. Career Robinson was mentored by the bassist Mel Graves, who also recorded on ''From the Sun'', Robinson's first album as a leader. He was a member of the groups Cannonball and Groundation, and founded Circumvention Music. In San Diego, he worked extensively with a trio that featured bassist Rob Thorsen and drummer Brett Sanders. Summerjam
Summerjam is a European reggae festival. It takes places annually in July at the ''Fühlinger See'', which is a lake located in Cologne, Germany. The event usually attracts an audience of between 25,000 and 30,000 people. Two stages and two tents are located on an island, with the camping area surrounding the lake. From 1985 to 1993 the Summerjam took place at the Loreley, in 1994 and 1995 at the airport Wildenrath and since 1996 at its present location in Cologne. Les Claypool
Leslie Edward Claypool (born September 29, 1963) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, filmmaker, and author. He is best known as the founder, lead singer, bassist, primary songwriter, and only continuous member of the rock band Primus since its formation in 1984. Frequently considered one of the best bassists of all time, his playing style is well known for mixing tapping, flamenco-like strumming, whammy bar bends, and slapping. Will Bernard is a guitarist and band leader. He has led the Will Bernard Band, Will Bernard Trio, Will Bernard 4-tet, and Motherbug.
