Greg Balsdon
Gregory Balsdon (born October 9, 1977) is a Canadian curler from North York, Ontario. He currently skips a team on the World Curling Tour. Curling career Balsdon was born in Toronto, Ontario. In 1995, Balsdon won the Ontario Schoolboy championship for his Don Mills Collegiate Institute team. In 1996, he won the provincial junior mixed title. Balsdon skips one of the top teams in Ontario. As of 2019, Balsdon has played in 13 provincial championships. He first played at the provincials in 1999, playing for John Base (4th place). He left the Base rink in 2000 to form his own team. He qualified again in 2002 as a skip, again finishing 4th. His next provincial was the 2005 Ontario Kia Cup, where his rink finished 4th once again. North York
North York is one of the six administrative districts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located directly north of York, Old Toronto and East York, between Etobicoke to the west and Scarborough to the east. As of the 2016 Census, it had a population of 869,401. Loonie Curling Club
The loonie (french: huard), formally the Canadian one-dollar coin, is a gold-coloured Canadian coin that was introduced in 1987 and is produced by the Royal Canadian Mint at its facility in Winnipeg. The most prevalent versions of the coin show a common loon, a bird found throughout Canada, on the reverse and Queen Elizabeth II, the nation's head of state at the time of the coin's issue, on the obverse. Various commemorative and specimen-set editions of the coin with special designs replacing the loon on the reverse have been minted over the years. The coin's outline is an 11-sided Reuleaux polygon. Its diameter of 26.5 mm and its 11-sidedness matched that of the already-circulating Susan B. Anthony dollar in the United States, and its thickness of 1.95 mm was a close match to the latter's 2.0 mm. 2017 Ontario Tankard
The 2017 Recharge With Milk Men's Tankard, better known as the Ontario Tankard was the 2017 edition of the Ontario men's provincial curling championship to determine who will represent the province of Ontario at the 2017 Tim Hortons Brier, the national curling championship of Canada. In 2017, the Tankard was contesteded in conjunction with the 2017 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, at the Cobourg Community Centre in Cobourg, Ontario, January 29-February 5, 2017. Ten teams played a round robin competition, followed by a page playoff to determine the tournament champion. A 54 year old Glenn Howard led his team to win his 17th career provincial championship, qualifying himself for a record 17th Brier. 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge
The 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge was held from November 8 to 13 at the Western Financial Place and the Cranbrook Memorial Arena in Cranbrook, British Columbia. This was the second Grand Slam of the 2016–17 curling season. The men's tier 1 final was the first ever men's Grand Slam final to feature two non-Canadian teams, as Sweden's Niklas Edin rink defeated Scotland's Kyle Smith team. Val Sweeting defeated Michelle Englot in the women's tier 1 final to win her second grand slam event. The tier 2 winners Greg Balsdon and Jacqueline Harrison qualified for the 2017 Meridian Canadian Open later in the season. 2016 Ontario Tankard
The 2016 Ontario Tankard, the Southern Ontario men's provincial curling championship, was held from February 1 to 7 at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre in Brantford, Ontario. The winning Glenn Howard rink represented Ontario at the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier in Ottawa. The Howard rink from Toronto defeated the John Epping rink (also from Toronto) in the final. It is Howard's 16th provincial championship title (ninth as skip). Teams 1Spencer was added to the team, replacing Richard Hart, who was bumped up to third, as Howard's regular third, Wayne Middaugh suffered an injury in a skiing accident and will have to miss out the remainder of the season. 2 Scott Bailey, the regular skip of this team was not able to play due work commitments; Fanset skipped the team in his place. Challenge Casino De Charlevoix
The Challenge de Curling Desjardins, formerly the Challenge Casino de Charlevoix is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, that takes place at the Aréna de Clermont and the Club de Curling Nairn in Clermont, Québec. The tournament is held in a triple-knockout format. The tournament, which was sponsored by Casino de Charlevoix until 2021, has been held every year (except 2020) since at least 2003 and was part of the World Curling Tour from 2003 to 2019. This tournament, along with the Challenge Casino Lac Leamy, was one of the few major curling events in Québec. Scott Chadwick
Scott Chadwick (born January 16, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Napanee, Ontario. He currently plays lead on Team Tanner Horgan. In 2021, he competed at the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Career While at Queen's University at Kingston, Chadwick won the 2010 CIS/CCA Curling Championships and placed fifth the following year at the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey. Chadwick would later team up with Greg Balsdon and capture the 2016 GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2. In 2019, along with Scott McDonald, Jonathan Beuk and Wesley Forget, he represented Ontario at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier where they finished with a 6–5 record. In 2021, while playing lead for Tanner Horgan, he finished second at the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Pre-Trials, earning a spot in the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Jonathan Beuk
Jonathan Beuk (born April 18, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Kingston, Ontario. Career While attending Queen's University, Beuk led his team of Andrew Inouye, Chadd Vandermade and Scott Chadwick to a gold medal at the 2010 CIS/CCA Curling Championships, Canada's University curling championship. The team represented Canada at the 2011 Winter Universiade, where they missed out on the playoffs, finishing with a 6–3 record. After University, Beuk joined the Jake Higgs rink, throwing second stones for the team. It was as a member of this team that Beuk played in his first provincial men's championship, the 2012 Dominion Tankard. There, the team finished with a 3–7 record. From 2012 to 2015, Beuk played third for the Ottawa-based Don Bowser rink. 2014 Tim Hortons Brier
The 2014 Tim Hortons Brier was held from March 1 to 9 at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia. Unlike previous years, the winner of the 2014 Brier automatically qualified for the 2015 Brier as Team Canada, similarly to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Mark Bice
Mark Bice (born October 10, 1984 in Sarnia, Ontario) is a Canadian curler. He used to skip a team on the World Curling Tour. Career Bice had a fairly successful junior career. Bice is a two time provincial junior champion, winning in 2003 and 2005 and was a provincial schoolboy champion in 2002. In 2003, his rink of Mike Callan, Rob Pruliere and Jeff Wilson finished with a 7-5 record at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships- out of the playoffs. In 2005, they went to the Canadian Juniors again, this time with Codey Maus replacing Callan. The team finished second after the round robin with a 9-3 record. After defeating Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc's Nova Scotia rink in the semi-final, Bice lost in the final match, against Saskatchewan's Kyle George.
