2016 Ontario Tankard
The 2016 Ontario Tankard, the Southern Ontario men's provincial curling championship, was held from February 1 to 7 at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre in Brantford, Ontario. The winning Glenn Howard rink represented Ontario at the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier in Ottawa. The Howard rink from Toronto defeated the John Epping rink (also from Toronto) in the final. It is Howard's 16th provincial championship title (ninth as skip). Teams 1Spencer was added to the team, replacing Richard Hart, who was bumped up to third, as Howard's regular third, Wayne Middaugh suffered an injury in a skiing accident and will have to miss out the remainder of the season. 2 Scott Bailey, the regular skip of this team was not able to play due work commitments; Fanset skipped the team in his place. Brantford, Ontario
Brantford ( 2021 population: 104,688) is a city in Ontario, Canada, founded on the Grand River in Southwestern Ontario. It is surrounded by Brant County, but is politically separate with a municipal government of its own that is fully independent of the county's municipal government. Brantford is situated on the Haldimand Tract, traditional territory of the Neutral, Mississauga, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The city is named after Joseph Brant, an important Mohawk leader, soldier, farmer and slave owner. Brant was an important Loyalist leader during the American Revolutionary War and later, after the Haudenosaunee moved to the Brantford area in Upper Canada. Jonathan Beuk
Jonathan Beuk (born April 18, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Kingston, Ontario. Career While attending Queen's University, Beuk led his team of Andrew Inouye, Chadd Vandermade and Scott Chadwick to a gold medal at the 2010 CIS/CCA Curling Championships, Canada's University curling championship. The team represented Canada at the 2011 Winter Universiade, where they missed out on the playoffs, finishing with a 6–3 record. After University, Beuk joined the Jake Higgs rink, throwing second stones for the team. It was as a member of this team that Beuk played in his first provincial men's championship, the 2012 Dominion Tankard. There, the team finished with a 3–7 record. From 2012 to 2015, Beuk played third for the Ottawa-based Don Bowser rink. Dayna Deruelle
Dayna Deruelle (born June 17, 1982) is a Canadian curler from Brampton, Ontario. He currently skips a rink on the World Curling Tour. His team competes in various events on the Ontario Curling Tour throughout the season and competes annually in the Ontario Curling Association Dominion Tankard play downs. Deruelle and his teammates Andrew McGaugh, Kevin Lagerquist and Evan DeViller enjoyed some success in their first season as a team when they qualified to represent Region 3 in the 2012 Ontario Dominion Tankard in Stratford, Ontario. Furthermore, the team qualified for the playoffs after finishing 5-5 in the round robin and winning a tie-breaker. In 2013, Team Deruelle once again qualified to represent Region 3 in 2013 Ontario Dominion Tankard, this time being played at the Barrie Molson Centre in Barrie, ON.
