Great Southern Slam
The Great Southern Slam (TGSS) is the largest competitive roller derby event in the Southern Hemisphere, contested by teams from New Zealand and Australia. It is held bi-annually in Adelaide in South Australia. TGSS was created and continues to be both hosted and run by volunteers from Adelaide Roller Derby. Initially held in 2010, it was the first flat track roller derby tournament to be held in the southern hemisphere.Beck Wise,Feature Preview: The Great Southern Slam", ''Derby News Network'', 8 June 2012 Format The first round of the tournament sees teams divided into groups, which play on a round robin basis. Each group includes one of the most experienced teams from Australia or New Zealand, a middle-ranking team, and one less experienced team. Newcastle Roller Derby League
Newcastle Roller Derby League (NRDL) is a flat track roller derby league founded in 2009, based in Newcastle, New South Wales. Their representative team is the Dockyard Dames, while their three home teams are the Harbour Hellcats, the Fort Smashleys and the Bogey Rollers. League History From its inception in early 2009, by mid-2010 the league had more than 100 skaters. Susy Pow, a skater from the league, was selected to skate for Team Australia at the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup. In February 2018, Newcastle became a member league of the WFTDA Apprentice Program, and graduated to full membership early in 2019. Convict City Roller Derby League
Convict City Roller Derby League (CCR) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Hobart, Tasmania. It was Tasmania's second league at its formation in 2009. Convict City is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Convict City's first public bout, "Inaugural Brawl", came courtesy of Van Diemen Rollers in late 2010, where they were soundly defeated by the Diemens. Convict City had their first interstate interleague bout in November, 2010, when Ballarat Roller Derby League ("The Rat Pack") travelled to Tasmania to take them on. Ballarat won by a convincing 213 points to 56. Convict City was the 2011 Tasmanian champion, winning the three-way tournament "Queens of the Skate Age" with Tasmania's two other Leagues, the South Island Sirens and Van Diemen Rollers. The Brisbane City Rollers (BCR) is a roller derby league based in Queensland, Australia. It consists of 3 women's intraleague teams, two women's travel teams and 1 men's travel team, which play against teams from other leagues. South Sea Roller Derby (SSRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in south-eastern Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. South Sea has two travel teams that play teams from other leagues. South Sea is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History South Sea Roller Derby (SSRD) was founded by former Victorian Roller Derby League (VRDL) member, Misty Meaner, in 2009, after VRDL moved its training location and her travel time dramatically increased. This sparked an idea to create a league to cater for girls living on the south east side of the city. The Auckland Roller Derby League (ARDL) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Auckland, New Zealand. Perth Roller Derby (PRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Perth, Western Australia. Founded in 2008, the league is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History The league was formed in June 2008, and began bouting in mid-2009. By the end of 2010, it was selling out its 700-seat venue. Perth Roller Derby competed in the 2010 Great Southern Slam, where they reached the quarter-final before losing 207–51 to the Pirate City Rollers from Auckland. WA Roller Derby (WARD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Perth, Western Australia. Founded in 2009, the league is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Sydney Roller Derby League (SRDL) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in the New South Wales city of Sydney.
