Grand Pavilion, Matlock Bath
The Grand Pavilion, Matlock Bath, is an Edwardian building in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, England, built in 1910 and run by the local community and operated by their own charitable company. It houses the Peak District Lead Mining Museum. In 2010, Derbyshire Dales District Council began a consultation looking at prospects for removing the building from their ownership. This action put the building's future at risk, and in response to this threat a local community action group, the Save the Pavilion Group, was created to save the building. The Matlock Bath Pavilion has been home to many music events. Matlock Bath
Matlock Bath is a village and civil parish in Derbyshire, England. It lies in the Peak District, south of Matlock on the main A6 road, and approximately halfway between Buxton and Derby. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 753. Originally built at the head of a dead-end dirt road running along the valley of the River Derwent from Matlock, the settlement developed in the 19th century as residential and a spa town which remains a tourist destination. The steep hillside restricts development with most buildings on one side of the valley and only footbridges across the river. The road was upgraded, becoming a through-way, now designated A6, avoiding the previous coaching road approach to Matlock from Cromford over very steep hills near to the Riber plateau area. A sound system is a group of DJs and audio engineers contributing and working together as one, playing and producing music over a large PA system or sound reinforcement system, typically for a dance event or party. Origin The sound system concept originated in the 1950s in Kingston, Jamaica. DJs would load up a truck with a generator, turntables, and huge speakers to set up street parties. The sound system scene is a part of Jamaican cultural history and responsible for the rise of modern Jamaican musical styles such as ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub. When Jamaicans emigrated to the United Kingdom, the sound system culture followed and became firmly rooted there in the 1970s.
