La Haute-Yamaska (meaning ''The Upper Yamaska'') is a regional county municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. Its seat is Granby, Quebec, Granby. It is named for its position at the height of the Yamaska River, which cuts through its southern part. It rises at Brome Lake located in neighbouring Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality. On January 1, 2010, the city of Bromont, Quebec, Bromont left La Haute-Yamaska; it was reclassified to the Brome-Missisquoi Regional County Municipality, Brome-Missisquoi RCM. In 2021, it was transferred to the Estrie region from Montérégie. Granby, Quebec
Granby is a town in southwestern Quebec, located east of Montreal. The population as of the Canada 2021 Census was 69,025. Granby is the seat of La Haute-Yamaska Regional County Municipality. It is the second most populated city in Estrie after Sherbrooke. The town is named after John Manners, Marquess of Granby; today it is most famous for the Granby Zoo and its landmark fountain of Lac Boivin. History The territory on which Granby is found was described as natural prairies and forests composed of ash, fir, maple, hemlock and birch, there was also a small swamp a kilometre and half uphill. The area was inhabited sporadically by nomadic First Nations. In 1792, Loyalists were granted permission to colonize the Eastern Townships. Montérégie () is an administrative region in the southwest part of Quebec. It includes the cities of Boucherville, Brossard, Châteauguay, Longueuil, Saint-Hyacinthe, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion. The region had a population of 1,507,070 as of the 2016 census and a land area of , giving it a population density of 135.4 inhabitants/km2 (350 per sq. mi.). With approximately 18.5% of the province's population, it is the second most populous region of Quebec after Montreal. 2012 Quebec General Election
The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canadian province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. The Parti Québécois were elected to a minority government, with Pauline Marois becoming the first woman to be Premier of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party took second place, with Premier Jean Charest losing his seat. The newly formed party Coalition Avenir Québec led by François Legault took third place, while Québec solidaire took 2 seats out of the 125. Shefford (provincial Electoral District)
Shefford is a former provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. As of its final election, it included the cities of Granby and Waterloo. It was created for the 1867 election (and existed prior to that in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 2008. It disappeared in the 2012 election. The western half became Granby, while most of the eastern portion joined Brome-Missisquoi.
