Gotlib
Marcel Gottlieb (14 July 1934 – 4 December 2016), known professionally as Gotlib, was a French French comics, comics artist/writer and publisher. Through his own work and the magazines he co-founded, ''L'Écho des savanes'' and ''Fluide Glacial'', he was a key figure in the switch in French-language comics from their children's entertainment roots to an adult tone and readership. His series include ''Rubrique-à-Brac'', ''Gai-Luron'', and ''Superdupont''. Biography Youth Marcel Gottlieb was born on 14 July 1934 in Paris to parents of Romanian and Hungarian Jewish descent. His father, Ervin, was a house painter and his mother, Regine, a seamstress. In 1942 his father was deported and died at Buchenwald after their building's concierge obligingly helped policemen to find him, a scene which made a strong impression on young Marcel. Superdupont
''Superdupont'' is a French comic strip created in 1972 by Marcel Gotlib and Jacques Lob. It is a spoof of American super-hero comics that sends up French national attitudes. Publication history ''Superdupont'' was initially published in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine ''Pilote'' from September 21, 1972 and moved to Gotlib's own magazine ''Fluide Glacial'' in 1975. The series, published irregularly through the decades, was originally written by Lob and Gotlib (who teamed up after finding out they had both had the same idea independently) and drawn by Gotlib. Gotlib passed on the art duties to Alexis, who was succeeded after his 1977 death by Jean Solé. Episodes have been drawn by Daniel Goossens, Al Coutelis, François Bouck, Gotlib again and Neal Adams. Rubrique-à-Brac
''Rubrique-à-Brac'' is a humorous comic strip series created in 1968 by Gotlib. The title is a portmanteau of the French words ''rubrique'' (section) and ''bric-à-brac''. Initially published in ''Pilote'' magazine, the series was republished as five hardbound books between 1970 and 1974 by Dargaud, and again in 2002 as one volume, which also included previously unpublished content. It is widely regarded as one of the cornerstones of today's humorous ''bande dessinée''. Style ''Rubrique-à-Brac'' is an assortment of short (two to three pages) unrelated strips, drawn in black and white (although the 2002 re-publication was colorized). Its fairly realistic graphics contrast with the surreal, sometimes satirical humour of its textual content. The result is comparable to a graphical form of deadpan humour. Alexis (comics)
Alexis (18 September 1946 – 7 September 1977) was the pseudonym of Dominique Vallet (), a French comics artist, best known for his work on the series ''Al Crane'' and '' Superdupont''. Biography Alexis started working for ''Pilote'' magazine in 1968, providing illustrations and gags. In 1969, he began a collaboration with Fred on the series ''Timoléon'', and started his working relationship with Gotlib on the film parody series ''Cinémastok'' in 1970. The partnership with Gotlib continued for several years, leading to the creation of the magazine ''Fluide Glacial'' in 1975 where the advertising parody series ''La Publicité dans la Joie'' was published. ''Gai-Luron'' is a French comics series about a melancholic basset hound, Gai-Luron, created on July 12, 1964, by Gotlib.''Gai-Luron ou la joie de vivre'', n°1, p1. ''Les Dingodossiers'' is a humorous series of comics created by French artists Marcel Gotlib (cartoonist) and René Goscinny (writer) first published in ''Pilote'' magazine from 1965 to 1967. Style The term ''dingodossiers'' is a portmanteau of the two French words ''dingo'' or ''dingue'' ("mad") and ''dossiers''. As the title suggests, the series is composed of didactic dossiers with a very humorous tone. Each story consists of two to four strips drawn in black and white. The strips deal with stereotypes and clichés and depict everyday life in a caricatured way. The stories are parodies and comic reports of scenes from marital and family life, work life, relations with neighbours, and holidays. A recurring character is Chaprot, a dunce pupil. Hamster Jovial or Hamster Jovial et les louveteaux was a French comics series created by Marcel Gotlib about a scoutsleader and his three young cubs. It ran between December 1971 and June 1974 in the French music magazine ''Rock & Folk''. Reprints also appeared in ''Fluide Glacial''. Concept Hamster Jovial is a tall, naïve scouts leader who is passionate about pop music. He always tries to inspire his young scouts (two boy scouts, one girl) with moralistic life lessons and by teaching them to sing along songs with him, but none of them care. The comic strip was controversial for frequently making risqué jokes, particularly involving the sexual antics of the little girl scout and her boyfriend. René Goscinny
René Goscinny (, ; 14 August 1926 – 5 November 1977) was a French comic editor and writer, who created the ''Astérix'' comic book series with illustrator Albert Uderzo. Raised largely in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he attended French schools, he lived for a time in the United States. There he met Belgian cartoonist Morris. After his return to France, they collaborated for more than 20 years on the comic series '' Lucky Luke'' (in what was considered the series' golden age). He wrote '' Iznogoud'' with Jean Tabary. ''Fluide Glacial'' () is a monthly Franco-Belgian comics magazine and a publishing house founded on 1 April 1975 by Gotlib, Alexis (comics), Alexis and . It's one of the most successful comics magazine in France, along with Métal Hurlant. Nikita Mandryka
Nikita Mandryka (20 October 1940 – 13 June 2021) was a French cartoonist. He started drawing in the '' Vaillant'' magazine, before moving to ''Pilote'' in 1967, and then created '' L'Écho des savanes'' along with Claire Bretécher and Marcel Gotlib in 1972. He left this magazine in 1979, going back to ''Pilote'' as editorial director. His major and better known works are the '' Concombre masqué'' (''The Masked Cucumber'') stories. He won the Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême in 1994.
