''Superdupont'' is a French comic strip created in 1972 by Marcel Gotlib and Jacques Lob. It is a spoof of American super-hero comics that sends up French national attitudes. Publication history ''Superdupont'' was initially published in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine ''Pilote'' from September 21, 1972 and moved to Gotlib's own magazine ''Fluide Glacial'' in 1975. The series, published irregularly through the decades, was originally written by Lob and Gotlib (who teamed up after finding out they had both had the same idea independently) and drawn by Gotlib. Gotlib passed on the art duties to Alexis, who was succeeded after his 1977 death by Jean Solé. Episodes have been drawn by Daniel Goossens, Al Coutelis, François Bouck, Gotlib again and Neal Adams. After Lob died in 1990, the series was written again by Gotlib with co-writers Lefred-Thouron, Bouck, then Belkrouf. No Superdupont comics have been made since Gotlib's death in 2016. Through his own work and the magazines he co-founded, ''L'Écho des savanes'' and ''Fluide Glacial'', he was a key figure in the switch in French-language comics from their children's entertainment roots to an adult tone and readership. His series include ''Rubrique-à-Brac'', ''Gai-Luron'', and ''Superdupont''. Biography Youth Marcel Gottlieb was born on 14 July 1934 in Paris to parents of Romanian and Hungarian Jewish descent. His father, Ervin, was a house painter and his mother, Regine, a seamstress. In 1942 his father was deported and died at Buchenwald after their building's concierge obligingly helped policemen to find him, a scene which made a strong impression on young Marcel. Alexis (comics)
Alexis (18 September 1946 – 7 September 1977) was the pseudonym of Dominique Vallet (), a French comics artist, best known for his work on the series ''Al Crane'' and ''Superdupont''. Biography Alexis started working for ''Pilote'' magazine in 1968, providing illustrations and gags. In 1969, he began a collaboration with Fred on the series ''Timoléon'', and started his working relationship with Gotlib on the film parody series ''Cinémastok'' in 1970. The partnership with Gotlib continued for several years, leading to the creation of the magazine ''Fluide Glacial'' in 1975 where the advertising parody series ''La Publicité dans la Joie'' was published. In 1976, Alexis started the humorous western series ''Al Crane'', in collaboration with Gérard Lauzier, and in 1977 he succeeded Gotlib as artist of the series ''Superdupont'', written by Jacques Lob. Jacques Lob (19 August 1932 – 24 May 1990) was a French comic book creator, known for several comics creations, including '' Superdupont''. Biography Jacques Lob began his career as an illustrator of humorous cartoons that were published in various magazines, until he was advised to focus on his writing by Jean-Michel Charlier. Working for magazines like ''Pilote'', '' Spirou'', and ''Record'' in the early 1960s, he wrote material for artists such as Jean-Claude Mézières, Pierre Guilmard, Jo-El Azara and eventually Jijé providing material for ''Jerry Spring''. Upon meeting Georges Pichard, the two began a partnership that would span several works and a few genres. Lefred Thouron is a cartoonist and writer born in Nancy, France, Nancy, France in 1961. Biography His first cartoons were published in 1984 in ''Hara-Kiri (magazine), Hara-Kiri''. Following, his work will be published in the weekly news magazine ''L'événement du Jeudi'', the daily ''Libération'', ''7 à Paris'', ''La Grosse Bertha'' and ''Charlie Hebdo'' (which he left in 1996 following the «Patrick Font » controversy). Superlópez is a Spanish comic book character created by Jan. Created in 1973, Superlópez is a parody of Superman. Born ''Jo-Con-Él'' (translated as ''Damn-with-him'') on the planet ''Chitón'' (Spanish slang meaning something like ''Shut up!'') much like Superman's home planet of Krypton, he leaves his planet when he enters a spaceship and presses a button, an accident that sends him to Earth. He was raised by adoptive parents in Barcelona and concealed himself under the identity of office-worker ''Juan López'' (which is actually author Jan's real name). Gauloises (, "Gaulish" eminine pluralin French; ''cigarette'' is a feminine noun in French) is a brand of cigarette of French origin. It is produced by the company Imperial Tobacco following its acquisition of Altadis in January 2008 in most countries, but produced and sold by Reemtsma in Germany.
