Gothenburg Celebrated Its 300th Anniversary
The Gothenburg Tercentennial Jubilee Exposition (in Swedish ''Jubileumsutställningen i Göteborg'') was a world's fair held in Gothenburg, Sweden during 1923 marking 300th anniversary of the founding of the city. The fair opened 8 May and ran until 30 September. Exhibits and buildings One site was at Liseberg, an existing gardened area. It was opened to the public for the exhibition, hosted several pavilions, including an industrial art house, an exports exhibition, a congress hall and a machine hall and amusement rides including a carousel. The Arts and Craft Pavilion was designed by Hakon Ahlberg and the arts exhibition pavilion by architects Sigfrid Ericson (1879-1958) and Arvid Bjerke (1880-1952) . Artist David Wallin had a solo exhibition in here including his paintings ''Summer'' and ''Springtime in the forest''. Göteborgs Konsthall is a museum of contemporary art in Gothenburg, Sweden. Description Göteborgs Konsthall features both Swedish and international art. It is situated in a classicistic building from 1923 at Götaplatsen in the center of the city, next to Gothenburg Museum of Art (''Göteborgs konstmuseum''). Gothenburg Quadricentennial Jubilee
The Gothenburg quadricentennial jubilee ( sv, Göteborg 2021) was originally scheduled to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2021 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden, organizers have postponed the celebrations to 2023, while a small-scale event will still take place in 2021. The anniversary follows the city's tricentennial jubilee held in 1923 (which was intended to be held in 1921, but was delayed due to World War I). The city was granted its founding royal charter in 1621, by King Gustavus Adolphus. Gothenburg Botanical Garden
The Gothenburg Botanical Garden ( sv, Göteborgs botaniska trädgård) is located in Gothenburg, Sweden, and is one of the larger botanical gardens in Europe. History The Gothenburg Botanical Garden is situated in a formerly completely rural area, where earlier a great country estate named Stora Änggården was located. The garden was initially funded by a donation from the Charles Felix Lindberg Foundation, in special memory of himself. Lindberg was a Swedish businessman and donor, who died in 1909. The Gothenburg City Council took the initiative to the botanical garden in 1912. The decision was finally taken in 1915 and work started in 1916. The park was opened to the public in 1919 (the Woodlands) and in 1923 (the cultivated areas). It was first planned as "a field for experimentation and biological demonstrations, and a nature park". Götaplatsen
Götaplatsen is a public square in Gothenburg, Sweden, at the southern end of Avenyn, the city's main boulevard. The square was inaugurated when Gothenburg held a major international industrial exhibition, 1923, celebrating the city's 300th anniversary. Götaplatsen is Gothenburg's cultural hub, enclosed by the Gothenburg Concert Hall (where the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra resides), the Gothenburg Museum of Art, the Gothenburg City Theatre and the City Library. David Wallin
David August Wallin (7 January 1876 – 27 June 1957) was a Swedish artist. In 1932 he won an Olympic Gold Medal in the art competitions of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles for his oil painting "''At the Seaside of Arild''". Background David Wallin is best known for his oil paintings with genre motifs and idealized images of nude women in atmospheric landscapes, where he stressed the affinity of human and nature. He also painted tender depictions of mother and child, and a series of portraits of famous Swedes and genres as figures, landscapes and nudes, still lifes and religious images. He is represented in a large number of museums. In 1905 he married the artist Elin Wallin, born Lundberg (1884–1969). He was the brother of the Swedish-American artist Carl E.
