Go!! Records
Go Records (usually badged as Go!! Records) was a small independent Melbourne-based recording label which ran from 1964 to 1968. Its releases were manufactured and distributed by the Melbourne-based recording and electronics company Astor. The Go!! label was established by the producers of the similarly named ''The Go!! Show'', Horrie Dargie, Arthur Young and Johnny Tillbrook (known as 'DYT Productions'). The label was noted for its cross-promotion of singers with the television show. The label produced 54 singles but with only limited commercial success. Bands awarded contracts included ''The Cherokees'', ''The Deakins'', MPD Ltd, ''Tony & The Shantels'' (from Shepparton, Victoria), ''The Chosen Few'' (South Australia), and ''The Clique'' (Perth). Melbourne
Melbourne ( ; Boonwurrung/Woiwurrung: ''Narrm'' or ''Naarm'') is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. Daddy Cool is an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia), Victoria in 1970 with the original line-up of Wayne Duncan (musician), Wayne Duncan (Bass guitar, bass, vocals), Ross Hannaford (lead guitar, bass, vocals), Ross Wilson (musician), Ross Wilson (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica) and Gary Young (Australian musician), Gary Young (drums, vocals) . Their debut single "Eagle Rock (song), Eagle Rock" was released in May 1971 and stayed at number 1 on the Australian singles chart for ten weeks. ''Grease'' is a 1978 American musical romantic comedy film based on the 1971 musical of the same name by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Written by Bronte Woodard (adaptation by Allan Carr) and directed by Randal Kleiser in his theatrical feature film debut, the film depicts the lives of greaser Danny Zuko and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson, who develop an attraction for each other during a summer romance. Xanadu (film)
''Xanadu'' is a 1980 American musical fantasy film written by Richard Christian Danus and Marc Reid Rubel, and directed by Robert Greenwald. The film stars Olivia Newton-John, Michael Beck and Gene Kelly in his final film role. It features music by Newton-John, Electric Light Orchestra, Cliff Richard, and the Tubes. The title is a reference to the nightclub in the film, which takes its name from Xanadu, the summer capital of Kublai Khan's Yuan Dynasty in China. This city appears in ''Kubla Khan'' by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, an 1816 poem that is quoted in the film. ''Xanadu'' was released in the United States on August 8, 1980, by Universal Pictures. John Farrar
John Clifford Farrar ( ; born 8 November 1946) is an Australian music producer, songwriter, arranger, singer, and guitarist. As a musician, Farrar is a former member of several rock and roll groups including The Mustangs (1963–64), The Strangers (1964–70), Marvin, Welch & Farrar (1970–73), and The Shadows (1973–76); in 1980 he released a solo eponymous album. As a songwriter and producer, he worked with Olivia Newton-John from 1971 through 1989. The Strangers (Australian Band)
The Strangers was an Australian rock band based in Melbourne, that lasted from 1961 to 1975. The band started out playing instrumental songs in a style similar to The Shadows, with influences from Cliff Richard. The original line-up included Peter Robinson (bass), Graeme ('Garth') Thompson (drums), Laurie Arthur (lead guitar) and Fred Wieland (rhythm guitar). Robinson had previously played with The Thunderbirds, and went on to replace Athol Guy in The Seekers from the late 1970s. Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Astor Records
Astor Records was an Australian recorded music manufacturer and distributor that operated from the early 1960s to the early 1980s. Astor was the trade name of the consumer electronics manufacturer Radio Corporation Pty. Ltd, a division of Electronic Industries Ltd., which also made Astor radios, radiograms and television sets. The company expanded into record production in mid-1960, and operated its own vinyl record pressing plant in Melbourne. The company's inaugural release was the single "Speak Low"/"Come Closer to Me" by Philippine-born vocalist Pilita Corrales (credited as Pilita).
