Glulam Gallery
The Glulam Gallery ( ms, Galeri Glulam) is a gallery in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. History The project to build the gallery started in 2009 when the design process started. Construction of the building was completed on 15 November 2011. It was then delivered by the Public Works Department to Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) on 5 December 2011. On 15 March 2012, the project was recognized by The Malaysia Book of Records to be the first completed building in Malaysia that uses glued laminated timber as the load bearing structure in which the use of the timber exceeded 80% of the total building material. The gallery was then inaugurated on 22 May 2012 by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. Architecture As written on its name, the building is made of glued laminated timber, or glulam in short. Johor Bahru (), colloquially referred to as JB, is the capital city of the state of Johor, Malaysia. The Malaysia Book Of Records
The Malaysia Book of Records (or MBR) is a Malaysian project to publish records set or broken by Malaysians. The project complements Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamad's ' Malaysia Boleh!' (''Malaysia Can!'' in English) campaign. As with the Guinness World Records, there is an annually published book listing the records. Aims The MBR is a project formed in line with the peoples Vision 2020. Realising that feats and record attempts were not recorded, Datuk Danny Ooi, (founder of The Malaysia Book of Records) felt that recognition should be given to record achievements by Malaysians. Glued laminated timber, commonly referred to as glulam, is a type of structural engineered wood product constituted by layers of dimensional lumber bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant structural adhesives so that all of the grain runs parallel to the longitudinal axis. In North America, the material providing the laminations is termed ''laminating stock'' or ''lamstock''. History The principles of glulam construction are believed to date back to the 1860s, in the assembly room of King Edward VI College, a school in Southampton, England. The first patent however emerged in 1901 when Otto Karl Freidrich Hetzer, a carpenter from Weimar, Germany, patented this method of construction.
