The co-operative has its roots in a series of amalgamations of small rural co-operative creamery societies throughout County Kilkenny, most notably the amalgamation of Avonmore Creameries Federation in 1966. Since the spin off of the dairy processing business to Glanbia plc and Glanbia Ireland, the primary activities of the co-operative have been managing the co-operatives investments in these entities for the benefit of its farmer-members. In 2021, the members of the co-operative approved the takeover of Glanbia Ireland along with its dairy processing business. The sale completed in April 2022 which marks the return of direct ownership of the dairy processing business to its farmer-members. Ballyhale
Ballyhale () is a village in the south east of Ireland. Located in the south of County Kilkenny, south of the city of Kilkenny and roughly halfway to Waterford city. The sport of hurling is popular in the area, and the local Gaelic Athletic Association team of Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful hurling club in All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship history. St Kieran's College (Coláiste Chiaráin) is a Roman Catholic secondary school, located on College Road, Kilkenny, County Kilkenny, Ireland. History St Kieran's College was founded in Kilkenny, in the diocese of Ossory in 1782, after the passing of the Catholic Relief Act of 1782. This act enabled Catholics to found schools (with the consent of the Protestant bishop of the diocese) for the first time since the Irish penal laws were introduced. Prior to this only Protestants could found educational institutions. The college was founded as the diocesan school and was the first of its kind in the country. Siobhan Talbot (born c.1964) is an Irish businesswoman, and the CEO of Glanbia. As such, she is the second woman CEO to head an Irish listed company. Biography Siobhán Talbot was born in Kilmoganny, Kilkenny to a dairy farmer and a school teacher,. Ballyragget
Ballyragget () is a small town on the river Nore in the north of County Kilkenny in Ireland. Ballyragget is on the N77 north of Kilkenny. As of the 2016 census, it had a population of 1,082 people. Toponymy The name 'Ragget' is Anglo-Norman in origin, and denotes a once-prominent Norman landowner Richard le Ragget who held these lands in the early part of the 13th century. Older names of the settlement include Donoughmore (or Donaghmore; ga, Domhnach Mór "large church") and the even more ancient Tullabarry ( ga, Tualach Bare) - the name of a Celtic or possibly pre-Celtic tribe which held their seat in the vicinity. Kells () is a village in County Kilkenny in Ireland. It is about 15 km south of Kilkenny. It is situated on high ground to the south of the Kings River. Kells Priory, though in ruins, is one of the best preserved in Ireland. The Cotterell family were the leading landowners in Kells in medieval times.
