Third River (New Jersey)
The Third River, also known as the Yantecaw River (possibly from Munsee ''yu wandakw'', "here this way"), is the third (upstream) main tributary of the Passaic River in Passaic and Essex Counties, New Jersey in the United States. The river originates in the Great Notch Reservoir in Woodland Park, New Jersey. It then runs through the towns of Little Falls, Clifton and Montclair. It then goes into Clifton a second time, runs through Bloomfield, through the grounds of the Upper Montclair Country Club, and then the Glen Ridge Country Club. After this, it runs by Bloomfield's North Middle School where it forms Clarks Pond which is used by the school's science classes to help teach biology. It then passes through Bloomfield's Brookside Park which was the location of a mill in the Colonial Period. Moggy Hollow
The Moggy Hollow Natural Area is a nature preserve in Far Hills, Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. As the Wisconsin Glacier advanced, Glacial Lake Passaic formed eventually rising until it found an outlet at Moggy Hollow, draining to the Raritan River. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in January 1970. Geology The Wisconsin glacier expanded and closed off lower height gaps to the north, forming Lake Passaic. As the lake continued to grow to a maximum depth around , it found its outlet out of the basin at Moggy Hollow at the western edge of the lake. The ledge of harder basaltic rock at above sea level served as a spillway for Lake Passaic carving a deep ravine out of the softer soil as the lake drained. Even as the glacier retreated, Moggy Hollow remained the main outlet due to debris left at Millburn until Little Falls and Paterson emerged from the ice. Hobart Gap
The Hobart Gap is a pass and road through the Watchung Mountains in Northern New Jersey. During the American Revolutionary War, Hessian General Baron Wilhelm von Knyphausen attempted to seize the Hobart Gap, now crossed by present-day Route 24, in order to attack the American headquarters in Morristown for the British. He was met with successful resistance by General Nathanael Greene, and was eventually defeated by the Continental Army and the New Jersey Militia at the Battle of Springfield. For thousands of years the pass in the mountain range was an important aspect of the traditional Lenape ''Minisink Trail''. From the pass, the trail led to a landing at the best place to ford what the Native Americans called ''the Fishawack'' (the Passaic River). Wisconsin Glaciation
The Wisconsin Glacial Episode, also called the Wisconsin glaciation, was the most recent glacial period of the North American ice sheet complex. This advance included the Cordilleran Ice Sheet, which nucleated in the northern North American Cordillera; the Innuitian ice sheet, which extended across the Canadian Arctic Archipelago; the Greenland ice sheet; and the massive Laurentide Ice Sheet, which covered the high latitudes of central and eastern North America. This advance was synchronous with global glaciation during the last glacial period, including the North American alpine glacier advance, known as the Pinedale glaciation.
