Gian Giacomo Lampugnani
Gian Giacomo Lampugnani (active 2nd decade 16th century) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period. Few details are known of his life. He was born in Legnano, he was a member of the Lampugnani family that included the composer Giovanni Francesco, musician Giovanni Battista, and the infamous slayer of the Duke Sforza, Giovanni Andrea Lampugnani. Renaissance art (1350 – 1620 AD) is the painting, sculpture, and decorative arts of the period of European history known as the Renaissance, which emerged as a distinct style in Italy in about AD 1400, in parallel with developments which occurred in philosophy, literature, music, science, and technology. Legnano
Legnano (; or ''Lignàn'') is an Italian town and ''comune'' in the north-westernmost part of the Metropolitan City of Milan, Province of Milan, about from central Milan. With 60,259, it is the thirteenth-most populous township in Lombardy. Legnano is located in the Alto Milanese and is crossed by the Olona river. The history of Legnano and its municipal area has been traced back to the 1st millennium BC via archaeological evidence. Giovanni Battista Lampugnani
Giovanni Battista Lampugnani (c. 1708 – 2 June 1786) was an Italian composer, born in Milan. He studied in Naples where he made his debut as a composer of opera in 1732. In 1743 he went to London to take over the Opera from Baldassare Galuppi at the King's Theatre, but he soon returned to Milan. Lampugnani later became the ''maestro al cembalo'' (meaning "master of the harpsichord") in 1779 at the Teatro alla Scala. Lampugnani wrote thirty operas during his lifetime, such as ''Semiramide'' (1741), ''Rossane, Tigrane'' (1747), ''Artaserse'', ''Siroe ''Siroe, re di Persia'' ('' Siroes, King of Persia'', HWV 24), is an opera seria in three acts by George Frideric Handel. It was his 12th opera for the Royal Academy of Music and was written for the sopranos Francesca Cuzzoni and Faustina Bordo ...'' (1755) and ''L'amor contadino'' (1760). Giovanni Andrea Lampugnani
Giovanni Andrea Lampugnani (died 26 December 1476) was a member of the Milanese nobility and an assassin of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, the Duke of Milan. The Lampugnani family was a high-ranking family in Renaissance Milan, and Giovanni served in several government positions, often working quite closely with the Duke. Under the Duke, Giovanni's brothers leased some valuable land from a rural abbey. Upon the death of the abbot, the inheriting cleric nullified the lease and evicted the Lampugnani brothers from the property. Although the family appealed to the Duke, there was no government intervention on the matter, resulting in utter contempt on the part of Giovanni. The Duke, although popular as a patron of the arts, was known to be rather ruthless in his rule and something of a womaniser, traits which encouraged more enemies to emerge amongst the government ranks. The Basilica of Saint Magnus (it. ''Basilica di San Magno'') is the principal church of the Italian town of Legnano, in the Province of Milan. It is dedicated to the Saint Magnus, who was Archbishop of Milan from 518 to 530. The church was built from 1504 to 1513 in the Renaissance-style designed by Donato Bramante. The bell tower was added between the years 1752 and 1791. On 18 March 1950, Pope Pius XII named the Basilica of San Magno a minor basilica. The interior of the basilica church is adorned with numerous first-class examples of artwork.
