Fernie Ghostriders
The Fernie Ghostriders are a junior 'B' ice hockey team based in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Eddie Mountain Division of the Kootenay Conference of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL). The Ghostriders play their home games at the Fernie Memorial Arena in Fernie, British Columbia. Barb Anderson is the team's president; Ty Valin is the general manager and coach. They are currently captained by Kyle Klein. The Ghostriders joined the KIJHL in 2004 as an expansion team, after they played junior 'A' in the RMJHL from 1991–99; the AWHL from 1999–2003; and the NAHL in 2003–04. In its RMJHL history, the team has won one division playoff title as a member of the Kootenay Division from 1991–1996. In its AWHL history, the Ghostriders have won the Bourne Cup once, in 1999. VF-142 ''Ghostriders'' was a US Navy fighter squadron established on 24 August 1948 as VF-193, it was redesignated VF-142 on 15 October 1963, and disestablished on 30 April 1995. History Late 1940s to the 1970s Fighter Squadron 193 (VF-193) was established on 24 August 1948 and assigned to Carrier Air Group Nineteen. The squadron was equipped with the Vought F4U-4 Corsair. It made two deployments to Korea during the Korean War between 1950 and 1952 aboard the aircraft carrier . In 1953 the squadron transitioned to the McDonnell F2H-3 Banshee. CVG-19 then made two deployments to the Western Pacific aboard Donald Eleazer Carr Jr being the commanding officer in 1953–1954 campaign. The Lockheed AC-130 gunship is a heavily armed, long-endurance, attack aircraft, ground-attack variant of the C-130 Hercules transport, fixed-wing aircraft. Carolina Ghostriders
The Carolina Ghostriders were an indoor football team and charter member of the American Indoor Football League. History Formed in 2005, they were originally named the Carolina Sharks and played their home games at the Cricket Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, the Sharks folded and were replaced by a traveling team, the AIFL Ghostchasers. The Ghostchasers were often called the "Greensboro Ghostriders" because they were based in Greensboro, North Carolina, although this was never an official name. They were later renamed the Carolina Ghostriders. The team did very poorly, compiling an 0-10 record in the regular season. Because the league only had six teams, however, every team made the playoffs. In the 2005 playoffs they lost to the Johnstown Riverhawks in the opening round. "Ghost Rider" is the alias used by a Swedish motorcycle stunt rider, called "probably the most famous flaunter of road rules the world has ever seen", whose internet videos have achieved a "cult following" with millions of views. Biography Ghost Rider performs in a series of independently produced DVD films where the recurring theme involves him performing illegal maneuvers on his motorcycle on public roads across Sweden and other countries in Europe. The films show Ghost Rider, mostly in the perspective of cameras mounted on his motorbike, riding at extreme speeds on busy roads, provoking law enforcement officers into high-speed chases and performing various stunts. Osceola Ghostriders
The World Indoor Football League (WIFL) was an indoor football league founded by Harry Pierce, owner of the Rome Renegades and Raleigh Rebels of the American Indoor Football League. The league was a splinter league that formed after disgruntled ownership in the AIFL, caused significant turmoil and resulted in several teams leaving the league. Both the Rebels and Renegades were to play in the league, with the Rebels to be renamed as the Carolina Bombers. However, on October 16, 2006, Pierce folded both franchises. Daytona Beach Thunder player Javan Camon, in his second year with the club, died as a result of injuries received during a game against the Columbus Lions on February 26, 2007. ''Ghost Rider 2099'' is a comic book series that was published by Marvel Comics, under the Marvel 2099 imprint, from 1994 to 1996. The series is set in the year 2099, in a dystopian possible future of the Marvel Universe, and features Kenshiro "Zero" Cochrane, a hacker who was killed but resurrected as the Ghost Rider — his mind controlling a powerful and well-armed robot. As with most of the Marvel 2099 titles, the protagonist was a futuristic version of a commercially successful Marvel Universe character. The series was heavily influenced by cyberpunk science fiction. Ghost Rider (shadow)
Mount Hosmer is a mountain of the Canadian Rockies in British Columbia, Canada. It shares its name with the adjacent community of Hosmer, but its best-known elevation, a series of south-facing cliffs, can be seen from further down the Elk Valley in Fernie. The mountain is an upside down mountain, where the oldest part of the rock formation is near the top and the youngest is at the bottom. Ghost Rider Ghost Rider is a shadow, particularly visible during summer evenings, cast on the central southern cliff face of Mount Hosmer. It closely resembles a figure on horseback followed by a second figure on foot. It has become incorporated into local folk legend and become symbolic of the community of Fernie. Ghost Rider is the name of multiple antiheroes and superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Marvel had previously used the name for a Western character whose name was later changed to Phantom Rider. The first supernatural Ghost Rider is stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who, to save the life of his father, agrees to give his soul to "Satan" (later revealed to be an arch-demon named Mephisto). At night and when around evil, Blaze finds his flesh consumed by hellfire, causing his head to become a flaming skull. State Route 164 (SR 164) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia that connects the northern parts of Suffolk and Portsmouth with Newport News and Hampton via Interstate 664 (I-664) with Downtown Portsmouth and Norfolk through either the Downtown or Midtown Tunnels. The first section, known as the Western Freeway, is a four- to six-lane freeway that runs from U.S. Route 17 (US 17) in Suffolk east to the Pinners Point Interchange, which was its previous terminus.
