Saint John Harbour (electoral District)
Saint John Harbour (french: Saint-Jean-Havre) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was represented from its creation for the 1995 election until October 13, 2005 by Elizabeth Weir, the leader of the New Democratic Party of New Brunswick from 1988 to September 25, 2005. Liberal Ed Doherty had then taken the spot by winning a by-election on November 14, 2005 and was re-elected in the 2006 general election. It is currently represented by PC Arlene Dunn who was first elected in the 2020 general election. Prior to the New Brunswick electoral redistribution of 1994, the district had moderately different boundaries. In that year it was split in two, with part being merged with Saint John South to form this current Saint John Harbour district, while the other half of the former Harbour district became a part of Saint John Lancaster. Edward Joseph "Ed" Doherty, (born May 22, 1949) is a New Brunswick ophthalmologist and politician, who has served in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick representing the riding of Saint John Harbour. He was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, the son of Joseph Doherty and Marion McMackin, and was educated in Moncton, at St. Francis Xavier University and at Dalhousie University. The New Brunswick Liberal Association (french: Association libérale du Nouveau-Brunswick), more popularly known as the New Brunswick Liberal ''Party'' or Liberal Party of New Brunswick, is one of the two major provincial political parties in New Brunswick, Canada. The party descended from both the Confederation Party and the Anti-Confederation Party whose members split into left-wing and right-wing groups following the creation of Canada as a nation in 1867. The 2020 New Brunswick general election was held on September 14, 2020, to elect members of the 60th New Brunswick Legislature. The Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick, led by Blaine Higgs, won a majority government. The writs of election were issued by Lieutenant Governor Brenda Murphy on August 17, 2020, after a request was made by Premier Blaine Higgs to dissolve the legislature. 2021 New Brunswick Municipal Elections
Municipal elections were held in the Canadian province of New Brunswick on May 10, 2021. They were originally supposed to be held May 11, 2020, but were postponed one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic in New Brunswick. Jennifer McKenzie (politician)
Jennifer McKenzie (born 1962) is a Canadian politician and former leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party. She was acclaimed as leader on August 10, 2017. On February 25, 2019, a day after losing a leadership review on whether or not a new leadership election should be held within six months, she resigned as leader rather than run as a leadership candidate. McKenzie had previously served as chair of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board for two terms. She is an engineer by training and a tech entrepreneur who formerly served as vice-president of Instantel Inc, a technology manufacturer.
