Gerhard Haderer
Gerhard Haderer (; born 1951 in Leonding, Austria) is an Austrian cartoonist and caricaturist. His brother Josef Haderer was a professional footballer. Early life Haderer studied at a technical art school in Linz for four years from 1965, and then studied engraving in Stockholm. Career He returned to Austria in 1971 and worked as an independent commercial artist and draughtsman. He developed his photo-realistic style working on advertising, illustrations, and even designing maps for the Salzburg tourist board. In 1985, after a cancer operation, he abandoned his commercial career to become a freelance caricaturist and satirical illustrator. His first satirical works appeared in the upper-Austrian magazines "Watzmann", "ORF-Ventil" and "Oberösterreichische Nachrichten". He soon began to appear regularly in the Austrian weekly “Profil" to which he still contributes. His work then began to appear in newspapers and magazines in other German speaking countries. Leonding
Leonding () is a city southwest of Linz in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. It borders Puchenau and the river Danube in the north, Wilhering and Pasching in the west, Traun in the south and Linz in the east. With a population of more than 27 thousand people, Leonding is the most populous city of the Linz-Land district and the fourth most populous city in Upper Austria. It is very close to Linz and offers views of the Alps and therefore attracts the upper social classes for living without providing much infrastructure on its own. Linz ( , ; cs, Linec) is the capital of Upper Austria and third-largest city in Austria. In the north of the country, it is on the Danube south of the Czech border. Eva Menasse
Eva Menasse (born 11 May 1970 in Vienna) is an Austrian author and journalist. She has studied history and German literature. Menasse had a successful career as a journalist, writing for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in Frankfurt and as a correspondent from Prague and Berlin. She left the paper to write her first novel, ''Vienna'', and now lives and works in Berlin as a freelance author. In 2005, she received the Corine Literature Prize. The English translation of her novel ''Vienna'' was shortlisted for the 2007 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize in the UK. Menasse was married to the German author Michael Kumpfmüller from 2004 to 2017. Robert Menasse
Robert Menasse (born 21 June 1954) is an Austrian writer. Biography Menasse was born in Vienna. As an undergraduate, he studied German studies, philosophy and political science in Vienna, Salzburg and Messina. In 1980 he completed his PhD thesis "Der Typus des Außenseiters im Literaturbetrieb. Am Beispiel Hermann Schürrer" ("The outsider phenotype within literature"). Between 1981 and 1988 Menasse worked as a junior lecturer at the Institute of Literature Theory at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He has been working as a freelance publicist, columnist and translator of novels from Portuguese into German ever since. His first novel ''Sinnliche Gewissheit'', published in 1988, is a semi-autobiographical tale of Austrians living in exile in Brazil. The magazine ''Literatur und Kritik'' published Menasse's first poem ("Kopfwehmut") in 1989.
