Gerardo Pisarello
Gerardo Pisarello Prados (born 1970) is a Spanish-Argentine politician and jurist, member of the 13th Congress of Deputies. A member of Barcelona en Comú, he served as First Deputy Mayor of Barcelona between 2015 and 2019, with responsibility for Work, Economy and Strategic Planning. Political and academic career A former professor in constitutional law at the University of Barcelona, he was elected to the Barcelona City Council as part of the Barcelona en Comú municipal platform. He is the author of numerous books on constitutionalism, human rights and the right to the city and writes for Público, Eldiario.es and Sin Permiso. Pisarello was vice president of the DESC Observatory for over ten years and was one of the founding members of the anti-capitalist and pro-independence Procés Constituent. Catalan Independence
The Catalan independence movement ( ca, independentisme català; Spanish: ''independentismo catalán'') is a social and political movement (with roots in Catalan nationalism) which seeks the independence of Catalonia from Spain. The beginnings of separatism in Catalonia can be traced back to regionalist and nationalist movements of the mid–19th century, influenced by romantic ideas widespread in Europe at the time. The first organised Catalan independence party was Estat Català (Catalan State), founded in 1922 by Francesc Macià. In 1931, Estat Català and other parties formed Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (Republican Left of Catalonia, ERC). DiEM25
The Democracy in Europe Movement 2025, or DiEM25, is a pan-European political movement founded in 2016 by a group of Europeans, including former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and Croatian philosopher Srećko Horvat. The movement was officially launched at ceremonial events on 9 February 2016 in the Volksbühne theatre in Berlin and on 23 March in Rome. DiEM25's tendencies are alter-globalisation, social ecology, ecofeminism, post-growth and post-capitalism. Implementation of a universal basic income is widely defended among its members. The acronym DiEM alludes to the Latin phrase '' carpe diem''. The Congress of Deputies ( es, link=no, Congreso de los Diputados, italic=unset) is the lower house of the Cortes Generales, Spain's legislative branch. ''Público'' () is a Spanish online newspaper. It was published as a print daily newspaper between 2007 and 2012. The print version folded but the newspaper continues online. History and profile ''Público'' was established in September 2007. The founder is Jaume Roures, head of Mediapro. One of only two national left-wing papers (the other being ''elDiario.es''), the paper had a harder-left editorial line than ''El País''. ''Público'' also aimed at a younger readership.
