George Henry Cowan
George Henry Cowan (June 17, 1858 – September 20, 1935) was a Canadian lawyer and Conservative politician. He represented Vancouver City in the House of Commons of Canada for one term from 1908 to 1911. Born in Watford, Canada West, Cowan was educated at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1889 and moved to British Columbia in 1893. 1908 Canadian Federal Election
The 1908 Canadian federal election was held on Monday October 26, 1908 to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 11th Parliament of Canada. Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier's Liberal Party of Canada was re-elected for a fourth consecutive term in government with a majority government. The Liberals lost four seats and a small share of the popular vote. Sir Robert Borden's Conservatives and Liberal-Conservatives won ten additional seats. This was the first election in which Alberta and Saskatchewan voted as provinces. Following their creation in 1905, the two new provinces continued to be represented by MP's initially elected under the old Northwest Territories riding boundaries, some of which straddled the new provincial border. Robert George Macpherson (January 28, 1866 – November 27, 1926) was a Canadian Liberal pharmacist and politician. Born in Erin, Wellington county, Canada West, Robert George Macpherson's grandfather, Hugh Macpherson, was a native of Islay an island off the west coast of Scotland, who emigrated to Canada in 1858 with Robert George's father, Archibald. Macpherson's mother was Jeannette Hall, a native of Wellington county. Macpherson attended Arthur public school and complemented his education at Gait Collegiate Institute. Early in life he became connected with the drug business. Gaining a comprehensive knowledge of that trade, he settled in New Westminster, British Columbia and worked there from 1888 to 1895.
