George Henderson (Prince Edward Island Politician)
George Roland Henderson (10 November 1935 – 5 May 2020) was a Canadian politician, shellfish technician, farmer and electrical engineer. He served as a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. Born in Freeland, Prince Edward Island, Henderson was the son of R. Edgar Henderson and Hazel Edna Hardy, and was educated at Prince of Wales College. In 1960, he married Brenda Jane Matthews. He was president of Malpeque Oyster Cultures Inc. Henderson represented 2nd Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1974 to 1980 as a Liberal. He served in the province's Executive Council from 1974 to 1978 as Minister of Fisheries and Minister of Labour and from 1978 to 1980 as Minister of Highways and Minister of Public Works. He resigned his seat in 1980 to enter federal politics. In the House of Commons, he represented Prince Edward Island's Egmont electoral district where he won election in 1980 and 1984. The 32nd Canadian Parliament was in session from April 14, 1980, until July 9, 1984. The membership was set by the 1980 federal election on February 18, 1980, and it only changed slightly due to resignations and by-elections prior to being dissolved before the 1984 election. 2007 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 2007 Prince Edward Island general election was held on May 28, 2007. It elected members of the Legislative Assembly of the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The incumbent Progressive Conservative government was defeated by the Liberal opposition after holding power for eleven years. The newly formed Green Party captured 3.04% of the vote or 4.44% in ridings they contested, beating out the New Democratic Party for third place. Robert Lowell Henderson (born 21 July 1961) is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2007 provincial election. He represents the electoral district of O'Leary-Inverness and is a member of the Liberal Party. He is the son of the late former MP George Henderson. In October 2011, Henderson was appointed to the Executive Council of Prince Edward Island as Minister of Tourism and Culture. The membership was set by the 1979 federal election on May 22, 1979, and it was dissolved after the minority government of Joe Clark failed to pass a Motion of Confidence on December 13, 1979. 1984 Canadian Federal Election
The 1984 Canadian federal election was held on September 4, 1984, to elect members to the House of Commons of the 33rd Parliament of Canada. In one of the largest landslide victories in Canadian political history, the Progressive Conservative Party (PC Party), led by Brian Mulroney, defeated the incumbent governing Liberal Party led by Prime Minister John Turner. This was the first election since 1958 in which the PC Party won a majority government. Mulroney's victory came as a result of his building of a 'grand coalition' that comprised social conservatives from the West, Red Tories from the East, Quebec nationalists, and fiscal conservatives.
