Gebze, Kocaeli
Gebze (,) is a district in Kocaeli Province, Turkey. It is situated 65 km (30 mi) southeast of Istanbul, on the Gulf of Izmit, the eastern arm of the Sea of Marmara. Gebze is the largest district per population size in the province as of 2020-exceeding İzmit, the provincial capital. Gebze has experienced rapid growth in recent years, from 159,116 residents in 1990 to 392.945 in 2020. Geography The district of Gebze is located in the western portion of Kocaeli Province; with neighbors Körfez to the east; Pendik, Tuzla and Şile in Istanbul to the northwest,west and north respectively; Çayırova and Darıca to the southwest and Dilovası to the southeast. Transport The northern terminus of Osman Gazi Bridge falls within this area; the construction — having a total length of 4 kilometers (with a 1,688-meter main span) — bridges the Sea of Marmara from Kababurun to Dilburnu. Pylaia ( el, Πυλαία) is a former municipality in the Thessaloniki Prefecture of Greece. In the 2011 local government reform, Thessaloniki Prefecture became the regional unit of Thessaloniki (without boundary changes), and Pylaia became a part of the new municipality of Pylaia-Chortiatis. Pylaia continues under its old boundaries as a municipal unit within Pylaia-Chortiatis. Oeiras () is a town and municipality in the western part of Lisbon metropolitan area, located within the Portuguese Riviera, in continental Portugal. Kythrea ( el, Κυθρέα or ; tr, Değirmenlik) is a small town in Cyprus, 10 km northeast of Nicosia. Kythrea is under the ''de facto'' control of Northern Cyprus. History Kythrea is situated near the ancient Greek city-kingdom of Chytroi, which was founded by Chytros, son of Alexander and grandson of the grandson of the Athenian King Akamas. According to one tradition, the name Kythrea derives from Chytroi (Χύτροι > *Χυτρέα > Κυθρέα). Karakol
Karakol ( ky, Каракол, Karakol, قاراقول, ; zh, 卡拉科尔), formerly Przhevalsk (russian: Пржевальск), is the fourth-largest city in Kyrgyzstan, near the eastern tip of Lake Issyk-Kul, about from the Kyrgyzstan–China border and from the capital Bishkek. Kakanj ( sr-cyrl, Какањ) is a town and municipality located in Zenica-Doboj Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A sister city or a twin town relationship is a form of legal or social agreement between two geographically and politically distinct localities for the purpose of promoting cultural and commercial ties. While there are early examples of international links between municipalities akin to what are known as sister cities or twin towns today dating back to the 9th century, the modern concept was first established and adopted worldwide during World War II. Marmaray
The Marmaray () is a intercontinental commuter rail line in Istanbul, Turkey. A rail tunnel running under the Bosphorus strait was connected to an upgraded version of the old suburban train service (known as the banliyö), allowing trains to run all the way from Halkalı on the European side of the city to Gebze on the Asian side. In its finished form the Marmaray offers the first standard gauge rail connection between Europe and Asia. Gebze Metro
The Gebze Metro ( tr, Gebze Metrosu) is an under-construction rapid transit system in Gebze and Darıca, Turkey. The system consists of a single long line running north from Darıca to Gebze. The line will interchange with TCDD Taşımacılık high-speed and intercity trains along with Marmaray commuter trains to Istanbul at Gebze railway station. The metro system will be the first network to exist outside of a provincial capital in Turkey, as Gebze and Darıca are located within the Kocaeli Province. Most of the metro line will be underground, except for a section which will be at-grade. Journey time is expected to be 19 minutes and the projected daily ridership is expected to 4,800. A maintenance facility and a control center will be constructed at Pelitli, in north Gebze. Construction began in late 2018, and is expected to open in 2023.
