Gebze Metro
The Gebze Metro ( tr, Gebze Metrosu) is an under-construction rapid transit system in Gebze and Darıca, Turkey. The system consists of a single long line running north from Darıca to Gebze. The line will interchange with TCDD Taşımacılık high-speed and intercity trains along with Marmaray commuter trains to Istanbul at Gebze railway station. The metro system will be the first network to exist outside of a provincial capital in Turkey, as Gebze and Darıca are located within the Kocaeli Province. Most of the metro line will be underground, except for a section which will be at-grade. Journey time is expected to be 19 minutes and the projected daily ridership is expected to 4,800. A maintenance facility and a control center will be constructed at Pelitli, in north Gebze. Construction began in late 2018, and is expected to open in 2023. Gebze
Gebze (,) is a district in Kocaeli Province, Turkey. It is situated 65 km (30 mi) southeast of Istanbul, on the Gulf of Izmit, the eastern arm of the Sea of Marmara. Gebze is the largest district per population size in the province as of 2020-exceeding İzmit, the provincial capital. Gebze has experienced rapid growth in recent years, from 159,116 residents in 1990 to 392.945 in 2020. Geography The district of Gebze is located in the western portion of Kocaeli Province; with neighbors Körfez to the east; Pendik, Tuzla and Şile in Istanbul to the northwest,west and north respectively; Çayırova and Darıca to the southwest and Dilovası to the southeast. Darıca
Darıca ( el, Δάριτζα, from the Byzantine τὰ Ῥίτζιον) is a town and district of Kocaeli Province in the Marmara region of Turkey. It was ceded from Gebze district in 2008. The current mayor is Şükrü Karabacak, former head coach of the Turkish athletics team. Darica takes its name from Darıca Castle which is situated in the centre of town and was constructed during the Roman period, between 297 BC and 74BC. Darıca has a population of approximately 150,000 and exhibits the third highest population density within the Kocaeli Province. Yüksek Hızlı Tren
Yüksek Hızlı Tren or YHT ( en, High Speed Train) is a high-speed rail service in Turkey, operated by TCDD Taşımacılık, and is the railway's premier intercity train service. As of 2022, the network spans and services major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Eskişehir, İzmit and Konya. Expansion of the system is underway and the network is expected to reach Sivas, Edirne, Afyonkarahisar, Adana and İzmir in the 2020s. High-speed rail in Turkey was originally planned to be built as early as 1975, but it wasn't until 2003 when the construction of the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed railway began. Marmaray
The Marmaray () is a intercontinental commuter rail line in Istanbul, Turkey. A rail tunnel running under the Bosphorus strait was connected to an upgraded version of the old suburban train service (known as the banliyö), allowing trains to run all the way from Halkalı on the European side of the city to Gebze on the Asian side. In its finished form the Marmaray offers the first standard gauge rail connection between Europe and Asia. Gebze Railway Station
Gebze station ( tr, Gebze garı) is a station on the Istanbul-Ankara railway in Gebze, Turkey. It is located between Plevne and Etem Paşa Avenues just southwest of Gebze's city center. It was the eastern terminus of the Haydarpaşa suburban commuter service until 2013 and in 2019 became the eastern terminus of the new Marmaray commuter rail line. Gebze was opened in 1873 as part of the Constantinople-Izmit railway, built by the Ottoman government. The Anatolian Railway (CFOA) took over the line in 1880 and continued to build further east from Izmit.
