Gaumee Film Awards
The Gaumee Film Awards aka Dhivehi Film Awards are presented by National Centre for the Arts to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Maldivian film industry. The Gaumee Film Award ceremony is the oldest film events in Maldives. The ceremony had been sponsored by various private organisations in the past as well as in present provisions. A live ceremony was broadcast to television audiences. History A meeting was arranged at MCM on 30 October 1993, once the government decides to hold a Film Festival to honor the film industry. The awards were first introduced in 1994. Out of the twenty two people invited from the fraternity, only ten people showed up for the meeting. ''Dharinnahtakai'' is a 2004 Maldivian romantic drama film directed by Ahmed Nimal. Produced by Ahmed Saleem under Artwaves, the film stars Ali Seezan, Niuma Mohamed, Ahmed Asim and Sheereen Abdul Wahid in pivotal roles. Premise Moonisa (Niuma Mohamed) and Shahid (Ali Seezan) lives a happy life with their daughter Nadhu until Shahid's childhood friend, Junaid (Ahmed Asim) returns from abroad who decides to take revenge on Moonisa for rebuffing his relationship proposal. ''Fanaa'' () is a 2010 drama film directed by Aishath Rishmy. Produced by Aminath Rasheedha under Yaaraa Productions, the film stars Rasheedha, Rishmy and Ahmed Azmeel. The film was released on 14 July 2010. It is the second film from Yaaraa Productions after 2006's horror film ''Hukuru Vileyrey''. It is Azmeel's first appearance in a feature film. Aishath Rishmy
Aishath Rishmy Rameez (born 15 November 1985) is a Maldivian actress film producer and director. Early life Born in Malé, Maldives, Rishmy is the daughter of actor Aminath Rasheedha. She is the elder sister of actress Mariyam Azza. They reside in Vilingili since the early days when the island was made a satellite town of Male. Rishmy completed her secondary education from Aminiya School and accomplished her higher education from Centre for Higher Secondary Education. Rishmy made a brief cameo appearance in the film ''Mithuru'', along with Mariyam Azza, which was produced by her step-father Ahmed Shiyam and co-starring with Rasheedha. Zeenath Abbas
Fathimath Zeenath (born 14 August 1978), commonly known as Zeenath Abbas is a Maldivian actress. She has established a career in Maldivian films and is the recipient of a Gaumee Film Award. Making her screen debut alongside Reeko Moosa Manik in the song "Edheythee Reethi Moona", her first film release was Mohamed Rasheed directed drama film '' Kuhveriya'' (1998). ''Hukuru Vileyrey'' (), is a 2006 Maldivian romantic horror film directed by Aishath Rishmy and Aminath Rasheedha. Produced by Rasheedha under Yaaraa Productions, the film stars Yoosuf Shafeeu, Aishath Rishmy, Mariyam Azza and Zeenath Abbas in pivotal roles. Mariyam Azza (born 20 April 1989) is a Maldivian film actress. She is the daughter of actress Aminath Rasheedha and younger sister to actress turned director Aishath Rishmy Early life Born in Malé, Azza is the daughter of actress Aminath Rasheedha and the sister of actress Aishath Rishmy. Fauziyya Hassan
Fauziyya Hassan (8 January 1942 – 31 August 2022) was a Maldivian film actress. She made her film debut in ''Sidha'' in 1985. In 1994 she was arrested by the Indian police on espionage charges relating to the Indian Space Research Organisation. She and a friend were accused of passing sensitive defence information to Pakistan. The espionage case against Hassan was not proven and eventually other charges were dropped, though she spent three years in prison under the National Security Act. After her release Hassan appeared in a number of television dramas and films, including a run of horror films in the early 2000s. She afterwards appeared in a number of romantic dramas including '' Vaaloabi Engeynama'', for which she was nominated for best supporting actress at the 2008 Gaumee Film Awards.
