Garðabær
Garðabær () is a municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland. History Garðabær is a growing town in the Capital Region. It is the sixth largest town in Iceland with a population of 13,872 (Sept 1, 2013). The site of Garðabær has been inhabited since Iceland was first settled in the 9th century. Landnámabók, the Book of Settlement, tells of two farms on the site of Garðabær: Vífilsstaðir and Skúlastaðir. The former was named after Vífill, who was a slave of Ingólfur Arnarson, the first settler of Iceland. Ingólfur gave Vífill his freedom and he made his home at Vífilsstaðir. Facilities The only IKEA store in Iceland is located in Garðabær, as is the only Costco store. International School Of Iceland
The International School of Iceland (abbreviated ISI; official name in Icelandic: Alþjóðaskólinn á Íslandi) is a private, non-profit school in Garðabær, Iceland. It is the only international school in the Reykjavík area of Iceland, first established in 1960 as the American Embassy School. ISI has received support in the form of grants, training and consultation from the Office of Overseas Schools in Washington, D.C. since the 1960s. Stjarnan Women
The Stjarnan women's football team is the women's football department of the Ungmennafélagið Stjarnan multi-sport club. It is based in Garðabær, Iceland, and currently plays in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top-tier women's football league in Iceland. The team plays it home games at the Samsung völlurinn located in Garðabær. The team's colors are blue and white. Páll Logason (born 31 January 1986), also known as 'Fermeter' (Square-meter in English), is an Icelandic powerlifter and a strongman from Garðabær. Career Páll was passionate about lifting heavy weights since his teenage years and trained together with the likes of Stefán Sölvi Pétursson, Benedikt Magnússon and a young Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson at the 'Strongman Base' gym. He entered his first powerlifting competition in 2007. Hanna Rún Óladóttir (born 17 July 1990) is an Icelandic ballroom and Latin dancer. Born in Kópavogur, Iceland, in 1990, Hanna began dancing at the age of 4. During her competitive career she has won titles in Iceland and Europe. She has won the Icelandic Ballroom Championships more than 15 times, first in 1997. In 2011, Hanna competed as a professional dancer on the Icelandic TV series ''Dans, dans, dans'', with her then partner Sigurður Þór Sigurðsson. Dikta
Dikta is an indie rock band from Iceland. They have released five albums thus far. Biography In its present incarnation, the group began in 1999. They played in the Icelandic band competition Músíktilraunir in 2000 and were finalists. Dikta's four members have been friends since they were children. Last year they've played on festivals such as In The City in Manchester, the SPOT-festival in Denmark and Iceland Airwaves. Their powerful performance in front of a packed venue at Iceland Airwaves earned them a mention in Rolling Stone Magazine. Dikta's first album, "Andartak", was released in late 2002. It was released in Iceland by the band members themselves under their own label called Mistak Records. One of its singles reached the top of the Icelandic charts. The Independence Party ( is, Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn) is a liberal-conservative political party in Iceland. It is currently the largest party in the Alþingi, with 17 seats. The chairman of the party is Bjarni Benediktsson and the vice chairman of the party is Þórdís Kolbrún R. Gylfadóttir. It was formed in 1929 through a merger of the Conservative Party and the Liberal Party. This united the two parties advocating the dissolution of the Union of Denmark and Iceland; dissolution was achieved in 1944, during the German occupation of Denmark. Since its formation in 1929, the party has won the largest share of the vote in every election except the 2009 election, when it fell behind the Social Democratic Alliance.
