Gülchö
Gülchö (; ) is a mountain town in Osh Region of Kyrgyzstan. It is the seat of Alay District. Its population was 13,755 in 2021. Population Geography The M41 highway leading south from Osh to the Alay Valley and eastern Tajikistan passes through Gülchö. The 2402m Chyrchyk Pass separates Gülchö from Osh, and the 3615m Taldyk Pass separates Gülchö from Sary-Tash in the Alay Valley. Alay District
Alay () is a district of Osh Region in south-western Kyrgyzstan. The capital is Gülchö. The Alay District borders with China in the east, Tajikistan in the south, Chong-Alay District in the west, Nookat District in the north-west, Kara-Suu District and Özgön District in the north, and Kara-Kulja District in the north-east. Kurshab (river)
The Kurshab (), in its upper course ''Gulcha'' or ''Gülchö'' (), is a river in southwestern Kyrgyzstan. It discharges into Andijan Reservoir, which is drained by the Kara Darya. The river is formed at the north slope of the Alay Mountains. The length of the river is with a catchment area of , and normal average discharge of at Kochkorata hydrologic post. The river is fed by a combination of snow (23%) and ice (11%) meltwater, and springs (66%). The maximum flow of was recorded in June and the minimum - in February. The river is used for irrigation. Osh is a Regions of Kyrgyzstan, region of Kyrgyzstan. Its capital is Osh, which is not part of the region. Pamir Highway
The M41, known informally and more commonly as the Pamir Highway (), is a road traversing the Pamir Mountains through Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan with a length of over 1,200 km. It is the only continuous route through the difficult terrain of the mountains and is the main supply route to Tajikistan's Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. The route has been in use for millennia, as there are a limited number of viable routes through the high Pamir Mountains. The road formed one link of the ancient Silk Road trade route. Sary-Tash
Sary-Tash () is a village and major crossroads in the Alay Valley of Osh Region, Kyrgyzstan. Its population was 2,337 in 2021. Until 2012 it was an urban-type settlement. Nearby towns and villages to the north include Ak-Bosogo () and Chagyr (). Although this remote village has only some shop-cafes, a petrol station and five guest houses (March 2016), it is an important road junction connecting China, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Its name is derived from Turkic roots and means "yellow-stone". To the north, M41 goes over the Taldyk Pass to Gülchö and Osh in the Ferghana Valley. Taldyk Pass
Taldyk Pass is an all year round mountain pass, pass in the Alay Mountains of Osh Region of Kyrgyzstan. The elevation of the pass is . The pass is traversed by European route E007, M41 highway, route M41, and ЭМ-05 Road: Osh - Taldyk Pass - Sary-Tash. History The first cart road through the pass was constructed as early as in 1876. It served as a communication way to Alay Valley for a military detachment headed by the Russian general Abramov. However, in the records of expedition through Pamir route in 1883 Captain Putyata indicates that the road can not be used for this purpose anymore due to road blockage by rockfalls in some locations. The cart road was reconstructed in 1893 by Colonel of the Imperial Russian Army Bronislav Grombchevsky.
