Göran Johansson (politician)
Bengt Göran Lennart Johansson (31 August 1945 – 23 October 2014) was a Swedish Social Democratic Party politician. He was for many years the chairman (commissioner) of the Gothenburg Municipality Executive Board. With a working-class background, he was a union leader at his workplace at SKF and later became the Social Democratic Party's "strong man" in Gothenburg. He was one of the best known politicians in Sweden and was voted as one of the nation's most popular politicians. However meanwhile he had been criticized for an undemocratic leadership which made several – especially female – politicians leave their assignments within the Social Democratic Party. Johansson suffered from discoid lupus erythematosus, DLE, which caused his face to look swollen and red. He was longlisted for the 2008 World Mayor award. The Swedish Social Democratic Party, formally the Swedish Social Democratic Workers' Party ( sv, Sveriges socialdemokratiska arbetareparti ; S/SAP), usually referred to as The Social Democrats ( sv, link=no, Socialdemokraterna ), is a social-democratic political party in Sweden. Founded in 1889, the SAP is the country's oldest and currently largest party. From the mid-1930s to the 1980s, the Social Democratic Party won more than 40% of the vote. Gothenburg Municipality
Gothenburg Municipality (''Göteborgs kommun'' or ''Göteborgs stad'') is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Gothenburg. When the first Swedish local government acts were implemented in 1863 the City of Gothenburg, founded and chartered in 1621, became a city municipality with an elected city council (''stadsfullmäktige''). Its territory has since then been added through amalgamations in 1868, 1906, 1922, 1931, 1945, 1948, 1967 and 1974. Discoid lupus erythematosus is the most common type of chronic cutaneous lupus (CCLE), an autoimmune skin condition on the lupus erythematosus spectrum of illnesses. World Mayor is a biennial award organized by the City Mayors Foundation since 2004. It intends to raise the profile of mayors worldwide, as well as honour those who have served their communities well and who have contributed to the well-being of cities, nationally and internationally.
