Gérard Bruchési (born March 30, 1931) is a Canadian former politician and insurance broker. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada as a Member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, Progressive Conservative Party in the 1958 election to represent the Electoral district (Canada), riding of Beauharnois—Salaberry. He was defeated in the 1962 Canadian federal election, 1962 election. Bruchési was born in Montreal, Quebec. Beauharnois—Salaberry is a former federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1949 to 2015. Geography In 2003, the riding was re-defined to consist of the regional county municipalities of Beauharnois—Salaberry, Les Jardins-de-Napierville, and Le Haut-Saint-Laurent, including the parts of Akwesasne Indian Reserve No. 15 that lie within Quebec. In the 2006 census 88.7% of its population reported French only as their home language, 9.3% English (mostly in Le Haut-Saint-Laurent). The neighbouring ridings were Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry, Vaudreuil—Soulanges, Châteauguay—Saint-Constant, Brossard—La Prairie, and Saint-Jean. 1962 Canadian Federal Election
The 1962 Canadian federal election was held on June 18, 1962, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 25th Parliament of Canada. The governing Progressive Conservative (PC) Party won a plurality of seats in this election, and its majority government was reduced to a minority government. When the election was called, PC Prime Minister John Diefenbaker had governed for four years with the then-largest majority in the House of Commons in Canadian history. This election reduced the PCs to a tenuous minority government as a result of economic difficulties such as high unemployment and a slumping Canadian dollar, as well as unpopular decisions such as the cancellation of the Avro Arrow. Robert Cauchon
Robert Cauchon CM (10 September 1900 – 17 December 1980) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. Cauchon was born in La Malbaie, Quebec and became a stenographer. He became an alderman of Valleyfield, Quebec in 1943. The following year, he became the municipality's mayor of that municipality and remained in that role until 1947. After an unsuccessful attempt to win the Beauharnois—Laprairie riding in the 1945 federal election, Cauchon won a Parliamentary seat in the 1949 election at Beauharnois riding. He was re-elected to a second term in 1949, then with a riding change to Beauharnois—Salaberry he was re-elected to Parliament in 1953 and 1957. In the 1958 election, Cauchon was defeated by Gérard Bruchési of the Progressive Conservative party. The Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (PC; french: Parti progressiste-conservateur du Canada) was a centre-right federal political party in Canada that existed from 1942 to 2003. From Canadian Confederation in 1867 until 1942, the original Conservative Party of Canada participated in numerous governments and had multiple names. In 1942, its name was changed to the Progressive Conservative Party under the request of Manitoba Progressive Premier John Bracken. In the 1957 federal election, John Diefenbaker carried the Tories to their first victory in 27 years.
