Gérald Bertheloot
Gerard Bertheloot (5 January 1906 – 5 October 1950) was a Belgian middle-distance runner. He competed in the men's 800 metres at the 1928 Summer Olympics. Biography Bertheloot was born in Rollegem-Kapelle in West Flanders in 1908. He moved to Kortrijk, where he was employed in a bicycle factory. He appears to have been a member of the Union Sportive Gantoise athletics club in Ghent. In 1928, Bertheloot competed in the Olympic Games which were held in Amsterdam. Bertheloot ran in the 1st heat of the men's 800 metres, which was held on 29 July 1928 at the Olympic Stadium. He finished in fifth place, behind Guus Zeegers of the Netherlands and ahead of Vasileios Stavrinos Vasileios Stavrinos (born 1 May 1907, date of death unknown) was a Greek sprinter. The men's 800 metre event at the 1928 Olympic Games took place between July 29 & July 31. Forty-nine athletes from 24 nations competed. NOCs were limited to 4 competitors each.Official Report, p. 374. The event was won by Douglas Lowe of Great Britain, successfully defending his 1924 championship (the first man to do so in the 800 metres). It was the third of what ultimately would be four straight British victories in the event, and the fourth overall title for Great Britain in the 800 metres. Erik Byléhn's silver was Sweden's first 800 metres medal. Hermann Engelhard matched Germany's best-ever result in the event (Germany had previously won bronze in 1908). Olympic Stadium (Amsterdam)
The Olympic Stadium (Dutch: ''Olympisch Stadion'', ) is a sporting venue which was used as the main stadium for the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The venue is currently used mostly for athletics, other sports events and concerts. When completed, the stadium had a capacity of 31,600. Following the completion of the rival De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam in 1937, the Amsterdam authorities increased the capacity of the Olympic Stadium to 64,000 by adding a second ring to the stadium. In 1987 the stadium was listed as a national monument. AFC Ajax used the Olympic Stadium for international games until 1996, when the Amsterdam Arena, since 2018 renamed Johan Cruyff Arena, was completed. Renovation started in 1996, and the stadium was refurbished into the original construction of 1928.
