Gymnastics Association Of The Philippines
The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) or simply Gymnastics Philippines is the governing body of gymnastics in the Philippines. The sporting body is a member of the Philippine Olympic Committee and recognized by the Philippine Sports Commission. It is also a member of the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique and the Asian Gymnastics Union. GAP was established in 1962 and became affiliated with the International Gymnastics Federation the following year. Gymnastics is a type of sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, dedication and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups. The Philippine Olympic Committee Inc. (POC) is the National Olympic Committee of the Philippines. The POC is a private, non-governmental organization composed of and serve as the mother organization of all National Sports Associations (NSAs) in the Philippines. It is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as having the sole authority for representation of the Philippines in the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, the Southeast Asian Games and other multi-event competitions. The Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) is the governing body of gymnastics in Asia. It is one of the five continental confederations making up the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
