Guy Day
Guy Day (July 30, 1930 – January 16, 2010) was an American advertising executive who cofounded Chiat/Day with Jay Chiat in 1968. The agency went on to do memorable work for Apple Computer, including the Macintosh "1984" Super Bowl commercial. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. Day founded an agency called Faust/Day with Tom Faust. When Faust left, Day called Chiat to discuss a merger with Jay Chiat & Associates. Jay Chiat
Jay Chiat (October 25, 1931 – April 23, 2002) started his career as an American advertising copywriter. Biography Chiat was born to a Jewish family in the Bronx in New York City and grew up in Fort Lee, New Jersey. He attended Rutgers College, graduating in 1953 and was inducted in its Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2000. As an adult he shortened his legal name to Jay Chiat. He served in the United States Air Force. In 1968, Chiat teamed up with Guy Day to form the Chiat/Day advertising agency in Los Angeles (now TBWA\Chiat\Day). Chiat/Day went on to create some very memorable advertising campaigns and was named U.S. Agency of the Decade in 1989. Their clients included powerhouses such as Apple Computer, Nike, Energizer, Nissan, Infiniti, American Express, and Reebok. 1984 (television Commercial)
"1984" is an American television commercial that introduced the Apple Macintosh personal computer. It was conceived by Steve Hayden, Brent Thomas and Lee Clow at Chiat/Day, produced by New York production company Fairbanks Films, and directed by Ridley Scott. English athlete Anya Major performed as the unnamed heroine and David Graham as Big Brother. In the US, it first aired in 10 local outlets, including Twin Falls, Idaho, where Chiat/Day ran the ad on December 31, 1983, at the last possible break before midnight on KMVT, so that the advertisement qualified for the 1984 Clio Awards. The Super Bowl is the annual final playoff game of the National Football League (NFL) to determine the league champion.
