Guy Arseneault
Guy H. Arseneault (born 11 May 1952 in Dalhousie, New Brunswick) was a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 1997. He was a teacher by career. New Brunswick Legislature
The New Brunswick Legislature is the legislature of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. Today, the legislature is made of two elements: the Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, and the unicameral assembly called the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. The legislature has existed ''de jure'' since New Brunswick separated from Nova Scotia in 1784, but was not first convened until 1786. Like the Canadian federal government, New Brunswick uses a Westminster-style system, in which members are sent to the Legislative Assembly after general elections. Usually the leader of the party with the most seats is asked by the Lieutenant Governor to form a government who then becomes Premier of New Brunswick and appoints an Executive Council of New Brunswick. 2020 New Brunswick General Election
The 2020 New Brunswick general election was held on September 14, 2020, to elect members of the 60th New Brunswick Legislature. The Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick, led by Blaine Higgs, won a majority government. The writs of election were issued by Lieutenant Governor Brenda Murphy on August 17, 2020, after a request was made by Premier Blaine Higgs to dissolve the legislature. The election was scheduled to take place on October 17, 2022, as determined by the fixed-date provisions of the ''Legislative Assembly Act'', which requires a general election to be held every four years on the third Monday in October. However, Premier Higgs called a snap election after negotiations failed with the other parties that would have avoided an election until the fixed date in 2022 or the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (PC; french: Parti progressiste-conservateur du Canada) was a centre-right federal political party in Canada that existed from 1942 to 2003. From Canadian Confederation in 1867 until 1942, the original Conservative Party of Canada participated in numerous governments and had multiple names. In 1942, its name was changed to the Progressive Conservative Party under the request of Manitoba Progressive Premier John Bracken. In the 1957 federal election, John Diefenbaker carried the Tories to their first victory in 27 years. Madawaska—Restigouche is a federal electoral district in New Brunswick, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1997. Its population in 2001 was 65,877. Political geography The district includes all of the County of Madawaska (except Saint-André) and all of the County of Restigouche except the extreme eastern part. The neighbouring ridings are Miramichi, Tobique—Mactaquac, Rimouski-Neigette—Témiscouata—Les Basques, Haute-Gaspésie—La Mitis—Matane—Matapédia, and Gaspésie—Îles-de-la-Madeleine. In 2008, Liberal support was focused in the eastern and central parts of the riding, particularly in Edmundston, Campbellton, and Dalhousie.
