Guwahati Metro
The Guwahati Metro is a rapid transit proposed for the city of Guwahati, Assam, India. The system plan consists of 4 corridors covering a distance of 61.42 km in phase one of the Guwahati Metro. History On 11 January 2013, former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi held discussions with officials of Guwahati Development Department and Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, in which after detailed deliberations it was agreed that there was a need of urgently taking up the study of introducing a metro rail and bus rapid transit system in the city to arrest the chaotic traffic condition on the streets. The Assamese daily "Dainik Agradoot" published an article on 19 June 2012 regarding the probable metro rail of Guwahati. Guwahati (, ; formerly rendered Gauhati, ) is the biggest city of the Indian state of Assam and also the largest metropolis in northeastern India. Tarun Gogoi
Tarun Gogoi (11 October 1936 – 23 November 2020) was an Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016. He was a member of the Indian National Congress and led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories and was the longest serving chief minister of the state. During his tenure as the chief minister, he is credited with ending militant insurgency and mitigating violence in addition to improving the state's fiscal condition. He also served six terms as a Member of parliament, Lok Sabha and served as a Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Food and Ministry of Food Processing Industries. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, in 2021. Guwahati railway station (Station code: GHY) is located in the heart of the city of Guwahati, Assam. It is the first fully solar-operated railway station in India. It has been rated as A1-category station. Just behind the Guwahati Railway Station is the Assam State Transport Corporation Bus Terminal. An ISO-certified railway station, Guwahati Railway Station has been ranked 21 in cleanliness among the A1-category railway stations in India. To reduce the traffic on the Guwahati junction, there is another railway station in the city at Maligaon, the Kamakhya railway station.
